所以我們既然是神的後裔，就不應該認為神性是彷彿用人的手藝和心思所雕刻的金、銀、石像。

它們有嘴卻不能說，有眼卻不能看；有耳卻不能聽，有鼻卻不能聞；有手卻不能摸，有腳卻不能走，也不能用喉嚨發出聲音。那些造它們的、所有依靠它們的，都會像它們那樣。

你們知道，當你們還是外邦人的時候，是怎樣被引誘、被帶到那些不能說話的偶像那裡的。

你們把神比作誰呢？你們把神與什麼形像並列呢？

你們向高天舉目觀看吧！是誰創造了這些萬象？是按著數目把萬象領出來的那一位！他一一點其名；因他的大能大力，它們一個也不缺失。

要知道，過往的日子，你們做了外邦人願意做的事，活在好色、私慾、酗酒、荒宴、狂飲和律法所禁止的拜偶像之中——這已經夠了。

木匠拉準繩，用筆畫出偶像的樣子，用鉋子鉋成形狀，用圓規畫出輪廓，把偶像做成人的樣式，像人那樣的美麗，好住在廟裡。

列國的偶像是銀的、金的，是人手所造的：它們有嘴卻不能說，有眼卻不能看；有耳卻不能聽，口中也沒有氣息；那些造它們的、所有依靠它們的，都會像它們那樣。

可是，其餘沒有被這些災害所殺的人，還是不悔改離開自己手所做的，不停止拜鬼魔和那些金、銀、銅、石、木的偶像——它們既不能看、也不能聽、更不能走。
