When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.

The Lamb broke open the fifth seal. I saw souls under the altar. They were the souls of people who had been killed. They had been killed because of God’s word and their faithful witness.

When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne.

When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of all who had been martyred for the word of God and for being faithful in their testimony.

時見王位數席、居其位者、受審判之權；又見諸為耶穌妙證、天主聖道、而致命者之靈魂、及生前未拜獸及厥像、且未受其印誌於顙或手者之靈魂。若輩至此復活而與基督乘權千載；

人將開除爾等教籍；屆時、殺爾者、且將自以為盡忠於天主矣！

我若望為爾之同胞、與爾在耶穌懷中共受患難、同屬一國、而咸秉忍辱負重之德。吾因天主之明訓及耶穌之妙證、而被流至巴脫摩海島。

更有一掌火之天神、來自祭壇、大聲招呼秉利鉤者曰：「操爾利鉤、以芟去地上之葡萄、其菓熟矣。」

吾知爾所處之地域、乃沙殫王位之所在也；而爾堅奉吾名、確乎不拔；即當吾之忠實證人安第巴被害於沙殫所寓之爾處時、爾之信德亦未被搖動。

又聞祭壇發言曰：「誠哉言也！主天主、全能者乎、爾之睿斷、既明且公。」

諸兄弟賴羔羊之血、毅然為聖道作證、舍命不渝、從容就死；故能克服頑敵、終獲致勝。諸天乎、在天之眾聖乎、可以懽忻而鼓舞矣！龍既見已被逐於地、乃追逐向舉一男之婦。婦受恩賜、得大鷹之雙翼、飛入曠野、匿於其所、在彼就養者歷時一載、又二載、又半載、以避斯蛇。蛇乃向婦去處噴水成渠、意欲漂而溺之；地坼、盡吸龍所噴之水以援婦。龍憾婦滋甚、遂與婦之餘裔挑釁；餘裔者、即遵守天主之誡命、而堅信耶穌之證言者是已。

吾乃俯伏而拜之、彼止之曰：「慎莫為此！我與爾及信奉耶穌妙證之眾兄弟、皆屬同寅；爾當敬拜天主耳。蓋耶穌之妙證、實為一切預言之靈樞。」

吾當遣派二證者、披麻而預言、凡一千二百又六十日。」二證者即宇宙主宰前之二株忠菓樹及雙燈也。如有欲害之者、彼二者必噴火滅敵；欲害之者適以自取其死耳。二證者受有大權、能閉塞穹蒼、傳道期中使勿雨；且能令水變血、從心所欲、降災於地、以施懲罰。二人作證既畢、將有猛獸出自無底深壑與之戰、勝而殺之、

若望乃徵己所親睹者悉為天主之明訓、及耶穌基督之妙證。

又一天神、捧金香爐而來、肅立祭壇之旁、受賜靈香無算、俾與諸聖之祈禱相和、而獻之於座前金壇之上。

角六鳴、忽聞一音來自天主前金壇之四角、

故望勿以為主作證是羞、亦勿以予之因主被囚為恥。當賴天主之德、毅然與我共為福音而忍辱負重也。

須知予已準備舍生致命矣。予之解脫、即在目前；

今予正徬徨於二者之間；衷心固願能早脫塵世、永與基督為伴；為本身計、蓋莫善於斯矣。

然吾人總覺坦然無懼、怡然而喜、恨不得即離此軀壳之逆旅、而返我真宅以承慈顏。

不寧惟是、苟能有補於爾等之信德、即須傾流吾血、以作獻祭之酒、亦所甘心；且將因爾等之樂而樂焉。
