When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.

The Lamb broke open the fifth seal. I saw souls under the altar. They were the souls of people who had been killed. They had been killed because of God’s word and their faithful witness.

Then I fell at his feet to worship him, but he said to me,“ Don’t do that! I am a fellow slave with you and your brothers who have the testimony about Jesus. Worship God, because the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

I will empower my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, dressed in sackcloth.”These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.If anyone wants to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and consumes their enemies; if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this way.These men have the power to close up the sky so that it does not rain during the days of their prophecy. They also have power over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every plague whenever they want.When they finish their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, conquer them, and kill them.

Another angel, with a gold incense burner, came and stood at the altar. He was given a large amount of incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the gold altar in front of the throne.

So don’t be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, or of me His prisoner. Instead, share in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God.

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time for my departure is close.

I am pressured by both. I have the desire to depart and be with Christ— which is far better—

and we are confident and satisfied to be out of the body and at home with the Lord.

The priest must apply some of the blood to the horns of the altar of fragrant incense that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting. He must pour out the rest of the bull’s blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering that is at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

But even if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
