所以，你應當回想你是怎樣領受、怎樣聽見的；應該遵守，也應該悔改。你若不警醒，我就要像賊來到一樣。我甚麼時候來到你那裡，你決不能知道。

爾所受所聞者、當記憶謹守、亦當悔改、如爾不警醒、我必忽臨爾如盜之至、爾不能知我何時臨爾、

應回憶所受所聞之教義拳拳服膺、而痛悔前失。如再不醒寤、吾必襲爾、猶不速之客突如其來、爾固無從逆知其時刻也。

因為你們自己清楚知道，主的日子來到，就像夜間的賊來到一樣。

但主的日子必要像賊一樣來到。在那日，天必轟然一聲地消失，所有元素都因烈火而融化；地和地上所有的，都要被燒毀（“被燒毀”有不少古抄本作“被發現”）。

因此，你們要警醒，因為不知道你們的主甚麼時候要來。你們都知道，家主若曉得竊賊晚上甚麼時候會來，就會提高警覺，不讓他摸進屋裡。

你們都知道，家主若曉得竊賊甚麼時候來，就不會讓他摸進屋裡。你們也要準備妥當，因為在想不到的時候，人子就來了。”

（看哪，我來像賊一樣！那警醒、看守自己衣服的是有福的！他就不至於赤身行走，讓人看見他的羞恥。）

親愛的，我現在寫給你們的是第二封信。在這兩封信中，我都用提醒的話來激發你們真誠的心，

但是弟兄們，你們不在黑暗裡，以致那日子會臨到你們像賊來到一樣。你們都是光明之子、白晝之子；我們不是屬於黑夜的，也不是屬於黑暗的。所以，我們不要沉睡像別人一樣，總要警醒謹慎。

所以你們要警醒，因為不知道那日子和那時間。

提摩太啊，你要保守所交託你的，避免世俗的空談和冒稱是知識的那種反調；

因此，我們必須更加密切注意所聽過的道理，免得我們隨流失去。

不過，你們要持守已經得著的，直到我來。

你們要小心，要警醒，因為你們不知道那日期甚麼時候來到。

那時，你們必想起你們的惡行和不好的作為，就必因你們的罪孽和可憎惡的事厭惡自己。

凡是我所愛的，我就責備管教；所以你要熱心，也要悔改。

恐怕他忽然來到，發現你們正在睡覺。

我曾給她時間，讓她悔改，她卻不肯為她的淫行悔改。看哪，我要把她拋在大患難的床上；那些跟她行淫亂的人，如果不為她的行為悔改，我也要把他們拋在大患難中。

你要靠著在基督耶穌裡的信心和愛心，常常堅守從我這裡聽過的話，作為純正話語的模範；

你接納你姊姊和你妹妹回來的時候，你就會想起你所行的，並要自覺慚愧；我要把她們賜給你作女兒，但這並不是出於我與你所立的約。我要堅立我與你所立的約，你就知道我是耶和華，好使你在我赦免你所行的一切時，就會回想，自覺慚愧，並且因你所受的羞辱不再開口。這是主耶和華的宣告。’”

趁著我還在世上（“在世上”原文作“在這帳棚”）的時候，我認為應當提醒你們，使你們常常警醒，

我必快來！你要持守你所有的，不要讓人拿走你的冠冕。

在那裡你們要想起你們玷污自己的所作所為，又要為了自己所行的一切惡事而厭惡自己。
