Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

A double minded man[ is] unstable in all his ways.

And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD[ be] God, follow him: but if Baal,[ then] follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and[ in] all judgment;

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Nevertheless I have[ somewhat] against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.So I gave them up unto their own hearts’ lust:[ and] they walked in their own counsels.Oh that my people had hearkened unto me,[ and] Israel had walked in my ways!

For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and[ that] I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest[ there be] debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:

And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship[ and] that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham;And them that are turned back from the LORD; and[ those] that have not sought the LORD, nor enquired for him.

My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren,[ see that ye] love one another with a pure heart fervently:

I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.

Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.

We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have[ sufficient] to finish[ it]?

And they said,[ We are] witnesses.Now therefore put away,[ said he], the strange gods which[ are] among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
