惟吾對爾亦略有未滿；蓋爾中有少數人、服膺巴拉盎之邪道；巴拉盎者、即昔日教唆巴拉可置躓石於義塞子孫之前、令食祭像之物、且誘其行淫者也。

Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality.

‘ But I have a few things against you. Some of your people follow the teaching of Balaam. He taught Balak to lead the people of Israel into sin. So they ate food that had been offered to statues of gods. And they committed sexual sins.

By forsaking the right path they have gone astray, because they followed the way of Balaam son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness,

Look, these people through the counsel of Balaam caused the Israelites to act treacherously against the LORD in the matter of Peor– which resulted in the plague among the community of the LORD!

that you abstain from meat that has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what has been strangled and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from doing these things, you will do well. Farewell.

When Israel lived in Shittim, the people began to commit sexual immorality with the daughters of Moab.These women invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods; then the people ate and bowed down to their gods.When Israel joined themselves to Baal-peor, the anger of the LORD flared up against Israel.

Woe to them! For they have traveled down Cain’s path, and because of greed have abandoned themselves to Balaam’s error; hence, they will certainly perish in Korah’s rebellion.

Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, launched an attack against Israel. He summoned Balaam son of Beor to call down judgment on you.

Look at the people of Israel. Are not those who eat the sacrifices partners in the altar?Am I saying that idols or food sacrificed to them amount to anything?No, I mean that what the pagans sacrifice is to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be partners with demons.You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot take part in the table of the Lord and the table of demons.Or are we trying to provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we really stronger than he is?“ Everything is lawful,” but not everything is beneficial.“ Everything is lawful,” but not everything builds others up.Do not seek your own good, but the good of the other person.Eat anything that is sold in the marketplace without questions of conscience,for the earth and its abundance are the Lord’s.If an unbeliever invites you to dinner and you want to go, eat whatever is served without asking questions of conscience.But if someone says to you,“ This is from a sacrifice,” do not eat, because of the one who told you and because of conscience–I do not mean yours but the other person’s. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience?If I partake with thankfulness, why am I blamed for the food that I give thanks for?So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.

Marriage must be honored among all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for God will judge sexually immoral people and adulterers.

and a stumbling- stone and a rock to trip over. They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

But regarding the Gentiles who have believed, we have written a letter, having decided that they should avoid meat that has been sacrificed to idols and blood and what has been strangled and sexual immorality.”

But to the cowards, unbelievers, detestable persons, murderers, the sexually immoral, and those who practice magic spells, idol worshipers, and all those who lie, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. That is the second death.”

“ Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but God will do away with both.” The body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.Now God indeed raised the Lord and he will raise us by his power.Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? but that we should write them a letter telling them to abstain from things defiled by idols and from sexual immorality and from what has been strangled and from blood.For Moses has had those who proclaim him in every town from ancient times, because he is read aloud in the synagogues every Sabbath.”

They killed the kings of Midian in addition to those slain– Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba– five Midianite kings. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.

Therefore we must not pass judgment on one another, but rather determine never to place an obstacle or a trap before a brother or sister.

But because of immoralities, each man should have relations with his own wife and each woman with her own husband.

With regard then to eating food sacrificed to idols, we know that“ an idol in this world is nothing,” and that“ there is no God but one.”If after all there are so- called gods, whether in heaven or on earth( as there are many gods and many lords),yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we live, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we live.But this knowledge is not shared by all. And some, by being accustomed to idols in former times, eat this food as an idol sacrifice, and their conscience, because it is weak, is defiled.Now food will not bring us close to God. We are no worse if we do not eat and no better if we do.But be careful that this liberty of yours does not become a hindrance to the weak.For if someone weak sees you who possess knowledge dining in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience be“ strengthened” to eat food offered to idols?So by your knowledge the weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed.If you sin against your brothers or sisters in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.For this reason, if food causes my brother or sister to sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I may not cause one of them to sin.

“ When a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I set an obstacle before him, he will die. If you have not warned him, he will die for his sin. The righteous deeds he performed will not be considered, but I will hold you accountable for his death.

So, this is what the LORD says:‘ I will assuredly make these people stumble to their doom. Parents and children will stumble and fall to their destruction. Friends and neighbors will die.’

He says,“ Build it! Build it! Clear a way! Remove all the obstacles out of the way of my people!”

Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks! It is necessary that stumbling blocks come, but woe to the person through whom they come.

It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything that causes your brother to stumble.

And now, I am about to go back to my own people. Come now, and I will advise you as to what this people will do to your people in the future.”

Because they used to minister to them before their idols, and became a sinful obstacle to the house of Israel, consequently I have made a vow concerning them, declares the sovereign LORD, that they will be responsible for their sin.

Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the sexually immoral, and the murderers, and the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood!

But I have this against you: You have departed from your first love!

Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but( as if it were possible) by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,

And David says,“ Let their table become a snare and trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them;

but we preach about a crucified Christ, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.
