And I saw the holy city– the new Jerusalem– descending out of heaven from God, made ready like a bride adorned for her husband.

“ The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.

Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven final plagues came and spoke to me, saying,“ Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb!”

The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatly when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. This then is my joy, and it is complete.

For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy, because I promised you in marriage to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.

Then the angel said to me,“ Write the following: Blessed are those who are invited to the banquet at the wedding celebration of the Lamb!” He also said to me,“ These are the true words of God.”

This mystery is great– but I am actually speaking with reference to Christ and the church.

As a young man marries a young woman, so your sons will marry you. As a bridegroom rejoices over a bride, so your God will rejoice over you.

I will commit myself to you forever; I will commit myself to you in righteousness and justice, in steadfast love and tender compassion.I will commit myself to you in faithfulness; then you will acknowledge the LORD.”

because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church– he himself being the savior of the body.

“ At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.Five of the virgins were foolish, and five were wise.When the foolish ones took their lamps, they did not take extra olive oil with them.But the wise ones took flasks of olive oil with their lamps.When the bridegroom was delayed a long time, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.But at midnight there was a shout,‘ Look, the bridegroom is here! Come out to meet him.’Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.The foolish ones said to the wise,‘ Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’‘ No,’ they replied.‘ There won’t be enough for you and for us. Go instead to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’But while they had gone to buy it, the bridegroom arrived, and those who were ready went inside with him to the wedding banquet. Then the door was shut.

Be happy for Jerusalem and rejoice with her, all you who love her! Share in her great joy, all you who have mourned over her!

Wake up! Wake up! Clothe yourself with strength, O Zion! Put on your beautiful clothes, O Jerusalem, holy city! For uncircumcised and unclean pagans will no longer invade you.

Listen, O princess! Observe and pay attention! Forget your homeland and your family!Then the king will be attracted by your beauty. After all, he is your master! Submit to him!Rich people from Tyre will seek your favor by bringing a gift.The princess looks absolutely magnificent, decked out in pearls and clothed in a brocade trimmed with gold.In embroidered robes she is escorted to the king. Her attendants, the maidens of honor who follow her, are led before you.They are bubbling with joy as they walk in procession and enter the royal palace.Your sons will carry on the dynasty of your ancestors; you will make them princes throughout the land.

be like people waiting for their master to come back from the wedding celebration, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.

Come out, O maidens of Zion, and gaze upon King Solomon! He is wearing the crown with which his mother crowned him on his wedding day, on the most joyous day of his life!

Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout, daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your king is coming to you: he is legitimate and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey– on a young donkey, the foal of a female donkey.

Hannah prayed,“ My heart rejoices in the LORD; my horn is exalted high because of the LORD. I loudly denounce my enemies, for I am happy that you delivered me.

Shout out praises to the LORD, all the earth!Worship the LORD with joy! Enter his presence with joyful singing!

Come! Let’s sing for joy to the LORD! Let’s shout out praises to our protector who delivers us!Let’s enter his presence with thanksgiving! Let’s shout out to him in celebration!For the LORD is a great God, a great king who is superior to all gods.

When the righteous become numerous, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.

When you see this, you will be happy, and you will be revived. The LORD will reveal his power to his servants and his anger to his enemies.

Mount Zion rejoices; the towns of Judah are happy, because of your acts of judgment.

Cry out, O nations, with his people, for he will avenge his servants’ blood; he will take vengeance against his enemies, and make atonement for his land and people.

When the godly see this, they rejoice, and every sinner shuts his mouth.

For we are the circumcision, the ones who worship by the Spirit of God, exult in Christ Jesus, and do not rely on human credentials
