I also saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.

“ The kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.

Then one of the seven angels, who had held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues, came and spoke with me:“ Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

He who has the bride is the groom. But the groom’s friend, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatly at the groom’s voice. So this joy of mine is complete.

For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy, because I have promised you in marriage to one husband— to present a pure virgin to Christ.

Then he said to me,“ Write: Blessed are those invited to the marriage feast of the Lamb!” He also said to me,“ These words of God are true.”

This mystery is profound, but I am talking about Christ and the church.

For as a young man marries a young woman, so your sons will marry you; and as a groom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.

I will take you to be my wife forever. I will take you to be my wife in righteousness, justice, love, and compassion.I will take you to be my wife in faithfulness, and you will know the LORD.

because the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of the body.

“ At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom.Five of them were foolish and five were wise.When the foolish took their lamps, they didn’t take oil with them;but the wise ones took oil in their flasks with their lamps.When the groom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.“ In the middle of the night there was a shout:‘ Here’s the groom! Come out to meet him.’“ Then all the virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.The foolish ones said to the wise ones,‘ Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’“ The wise ones answered,‘ No, there won’t be enough for us and for you. Go instead to those who sell oil, and buy some for yourselves.’“ When they had gone to buy some, the groom arrived, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut.

Be glad for Jerusalem and rejoice over her, all who love her. Rejoice greatly with her, all who mourn over her—

“ Wake up, wake up; put on your strength, Zion! Put on your beautiful garments, Jerusalem, the holy city! For the uncircumcised and the unclean will no longer enter you.

Listen, daughter, pay attention and consider: Forget your people and your father’s house,and the king will desire your beauty. Bow down to him, for he is your lord.The daughter of Tyre, the wealthy people, will seek your favor with gifts.In her chamber, the royal daughter is all glorious, her clothing embroidered with gold.In colorful garments she is led to the king; after her, the virgins, her companions, are brought to you.They are led in with gladness and rejoicing; they enter the king’s palace.Your sons will succeed your ancestors; you will make them princes throughout the land.

You are to be like people waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet so that when he comes and knocks, they can open the door for him at once.

Go out, young women of Zion, and gaze at King Solomon, wearing the crown his mother placed on him on the day of his wedding— the day of his heart’s rejoicing.

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout in triumph, Daughter Jerusalem! Look, your King is coming to you; he is righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Hannah prayed: My heart rejoices in the LORD; my horn is lifted up by the LORD. My mouth boasts over my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.

Let the whole earth shout triumphantly to the LORD!Serve the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

When the righteous flourish, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, people groan.

Mount Zion is glad. Judah’s villages rejoice because of your judgments.
