大邑素衣細布紫絳、飾金玉珠璣、頃刻間、富有遂至貧乏、嗚呼哀哉、

曰、此大邑衣以枲布紫絳之衣、飾以金珠寶石、富有如此之大、頃刻間消滅、哀哉、哀哉、

「哀哉大邑、昔以純紵紫絳為衣、金玉珠璣為飾；

那女人身穿紫色和深红色的衣服，以金子、宝石和珍珠为装饰。她手里拿着金杯，杯中盛满了可憎之物和她淫乱的污秽。

“有一个财主，身穿紫色袍子和细麻衣，天天奢华宴乐。又有一个穷人，名叫拉撒路，满身脓疮，被放在财主的门口，渴望得到财主桌子上掉下来的碎渣充饥，甚至有狗来舔他的疮。后来那穷人死了，被天使们带到亚伯拉罕的怀里。接着，那财主也死了，并且被埋葬了。财主在阴间的痛苦中，举目远远地望见亚伯拉罕，又望见拉撒路在他怀里，就呼唤说：‘我父亚伯拉罕，可怜我吧！请打发拉撒路用指头蘸点水，凉一下我的舌头吧，因为我在这火焰里，极其痛苦！’“可是亚伯拉罕说：‘孩子啊，你当想起，你一生怎样享了你的福，而拉撒路怎样受了苦；但如今他在这里受到安慰，你却在痛苦中。这一切之外，在我们和你们之间，隔着巨大的深渊，所以人想要从这边过到你们那边是不可能的，从那边过到我们这边也是不可能的。’“财主就说：‘我父啊，那么求你打发拉撒路到我父亲家去，因为我有五个兄弟，让他去郑重地劝诫他们，免得他们也来到这痛苦的地方。’“但是亚伯拉罕说：‘你的兄弟们有摩西和先知们，让你的兄弟们听从他们吧。’“财主却说：‘不，我父亚伯拉罕哪！其实如果有人从死人中复活，到他们那里去，他们就会悔改。’“可是亚伯拉罕对他说：‘如果他们不听从摩西和先知们，就算有人从死人中复活，他们也不会被说服的。’

他们因惧怕她所受的折磨，就远远地站着，说：“有祸了！有祸了！宏大的城，强大的巴比伦城啊！因为一时之间，你的审判就来到了！”地上的商人也为她哭泣、悲伤，因为再也没有人买他们的货物了；

他们把尘土撒在自己头上，哭泣、悲伤，呼喊说：“有祸了！有祸了！宏大的城，所有靠着她在海上有船只的人都因她的财富发了财。她竟然在一时之间就化为乌有了！
