世上諸商、亦為之哭而哀、因不復見有人購其貨也、

天下商旅、苦無貿易、故哭之哀、

天下商賈、亦必為之號泣悲痛、因不復有購其貨者、

世之眾賈亦當哀哀而哭之；蓋誰復購其貨物乎？

“ The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her because no one buys their cargoes anymore—

“ The traders of the world will weep and mourn over her. No one buys what they sell anymore.

And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore,

The merchants of the world will weep and mourn for her, for there is no one left to buy their goods.

The merchants of the earth will also weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their merchandise any longer—

And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

Then the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn for her because no one buys their cargo any longer–

For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.”

The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived.

“ Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!”

He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads,and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

“ Your riches, wares, and merchandise, Your mariners and pilots, Your caulkers and merchandisers, All your men of war who are in you, And the entire company which is in your midst, Will fall into the midst of the seas on the day of your ruin.The common-land will shake at the sound of the cry of your pilots.“ All who handle the oar, The mariners, All the pilots of the sea Will come down from their ships and stand on the shore.They will make their voice heard because of you; They will cry bitterly and cast dust on their heads; They will roll about in ashes;They will shave themselves completely bald because of you, Gird themselves with sackcloth, And weep for you With bitterness of heart and bitter wailing.In their wailing for you They will take up a lamentation, And lament for you:‘ What city is like Tyre, Destroyed in the midst of the sea?‘ When your wares went out by sea, You satisfied many people; You enriched the kings of the earth With your many luxury goods and your merchandise.But you are broken by the seas in the depths of the waters; Your merchandise and the entire company will fall in your midst.All the inhabitants of the isles will be astonished at you; Their kings will be greatly afraid, And their countenance will be troubled.The merchants among the peoples will hiss at you; You will become a horror, and be no more forever.’”’”

The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

Thus shall they be to you With whom you have labored, Your merchants from your youth; They shall wander each one to his quarter. No one shall save you.

But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business.

The burden against Tyre. Wail, you ships of Tarshish! For it is laid waste, So that there is no house, no harbor; From the land of Cyprus it is revealed to them.Be still, you inhabitants of the coastland, You merchants of Sidon, Whom those who cross the sea have filled.And on great waters the grain of Shihor, The harvest of the River, is her revenue; And she is a marketplace for the nations.Be ashamed, O Sidon; For the sea has spoken, The strength of the sea, saying,“ I do not labor, nor bring forth children; Neither do I rear young men, Nor bring up virgins.”When the report reaches Egypt, They also will be in agony at the report of Tyre.Cross over to Tarshish; Wail, you inhabitants of the coastland!Is this your joyous city, Whose antiquity is from ancient days, Whose feet carried her far off to dwell?Who has taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, Whose merchants are princes, Whose traders are the honorable of the earth?The Lord of hosts has purposed it, To bring to dishonor the pride of all glory, To bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.Overflow through your land like the River, O daughter of Tarshish; There is no more strength.He stretched out His hand over the sea, He shook the kingdoms; The Lord has given a commandment against Canaan To destroy its strongholds.And He said,“ You will rejoice no more, O you oppressed virgin daughter of Sidon. Arise, cross over to Cyprus; There also you will have no rest.”Behold, the land of the Chaldeans, This people which was not; Assyria founded it for wild beasts of the desert. They set up its towers, They raised up its palaces, And brought it to ruin.Wail, you ships of Tarshish! For your strength is laid waste.Now it shall come to pass in that day that Tyre will be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king. At the end of seventy years it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the harlot:

And they will take up a lamentation for you, and say to you:“ How you have perished, O one inhabited by seafaring men, O renowned city, Who was strong at sea, She and her inhabitants, Who caused their terror to be on all her inhabitants!Now the coastlands tremble on the day of your fall; Yes, the coastlands by the sea are troubled at your departure.”’“ For thus says the Lord GOD:‘ When I make you a desolate city, like cities that are not inhabited, when I bring the deep upon you, and great waters cover you,then I will bring you down with those who descend into the Pit, to the people of old, and I will make you dwell in the lowest part of the earth, in places desolate from antiquity, with those who go down to the Pit, so that you may never be inhabited; and I shall establish glory in the land of the living.I will make you a terror, and you shall be no more; though you are sought for, you will never be found again,’ says the Lord GOD.”

“ The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning,

By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

And He said to those who sold doves,“ Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!”

Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh! For all the merchant people are cut down; All those who handle money are cut off.

Neither their silver nor their gold Shall be able to deliver them In the day of the LORD’s wrath; But the whole land shall be devoured By the fire of His jealousy, For He will make speedy riddance Of all those who dwell in the land.

For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold.
