世上諸商、亦為之哭而哀、因不復見有人購其貨也、

天下商旅、苦無貿易、故哭之哀、

天下商賈、亦必為之號泣悲痛、因不復有購其貨者、

世之眾賈亦當哀哀而哭之；蓋誰復購其貨物乎？

For all the nations have fallen because of the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich from the excessive wealth of her luxury.”

and the light of a lamp will never shine in you again; and the voice of the groom and bride will never be heard in you again; for your merchants were the powerful people of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your witchcraft.

Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her.”

And he causes all, the small and the great, the rich and the poor, and the free and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads,and he decrees that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name.

Your wealth, your wares, your merchandise, Your seamen and your sailors, Your repairers of leaks, your dealers in merchandise, And all your men of war who are in you, With all your contingent that is in your midst, Will fall into the heart of the seas On the day of your overthrow.At the sound of the cry of your sailors, The pasture lands will shake.All who handle the oar, The seamen and all the sailors of the sea Will come down from their ships; They will stand on the land,And they will make their voice heard over you And cry out bitterly. They will throw dust on their heads, They will wallow in ashes.Also they will shave themselves bald for you And put on sackcloth; And they will weep for you in bitterness of soul With bitter mourning.Moreover, in their wailing they will take up a song of mourning for you And sing a song of mourning over you:‘ Who is like Tyre, Like her who is silent in the midst of the sea?When your merchandise went out from the seas, You satisfied many peoples; With the abundance of your wealth and your merchandise You enriched the kings of the earth.Now that you are broken by the seas In the depths of the waters, Your merchandise and all your company Have fallen in the midst of you.All the inhabitants of the coastlands Are appalled at you, And their kings are horribly afraid; They have a troubled look.The merchants among the peoples hiss at you; You have become terrified And you will cease to be forever.’ ” ’ ”

The merchants of these things, who became rich from her, will stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning,

So have those become to you with whom you have labored, Those who have done business with you from your youth; Each has wandered in his own way; There is no one to save you.

But they paid no attention and went their separate ways, one to his own farm, another to his business,

The pronouncement concerning Tyre: Wail, you ships of Tarshish, For Tyre is destroyed, without house or harbor; It is reported to them from the land of Cyprus.Be silent, you inhabitants of the coastland, You merchants of Sidon; Your messengers crossed the seaAnd were on many waters. The grain of the Nile, the harvest of the River was her revenue; And she was the market of nations.Be ashamed, Sidon, For the sea speaks, the stronghold of the sea, saying,“ I have neither been in labor nor given birth, I have neither brought up young men nor raised virgins.”When the report reaches Egypt, They will be in anguish over the report of Tyre.Pass over to Tarshish; Wail, you inhabitants of the coastland.Is this your jubilant city, Whose origin is from antiquity, Whose feet used to bring her to colonize distant places?Who has planned this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, Whose merchants were princes, whose traders were the honored of the earth?The Lord of armies has planned it, to defile the pride of all beauty, To despise all the honored of the earth.Overflow your land like the Nile, you daughter of Tarshish, There is no more restraint.He has stretched His hand out over the sea, He has made the kingdoms tremble; The Lord has given a command concerning Canaan to demolish its strongholds.He has said,“ You shall not be jubilant anymore, you crushed virgin daughter of Sidon. Arise, pass over to Cyprus; even there you will find no rest.”Behold, the land of the Chaldeans— this is the people that did not exist; Assyria allocated it for desert creatures— they erected their siege towers, they stripped its palaces, they made it a ruin.Wail, you ships of Tarshish, For your stronghold is destroyed.Now on that day Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years like the days of one king. At the end of seventy years it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the prostitute:

And they will take up a song of mourning over you and say to you,‘ How you have perished, you inhabited one, From the seas, you famous city, Which was mighty on the sea, She and her inhabitants, Who imposed her terror On all her inhabitants!Now the coastlands will tremble On the day of your downfall; Yes, the coastlands which are by the sea Will be horrified at your passing.’ ”For this is what the Lord God says:“ When I make you a desolate city, like the cities which are not inhabited, when I bring up the deep over you and the great waters cover you,then I will bring you down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of old, and I will make you remain in the lower parts of the earth, like the ancient ruins, with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited; but I will put glory in the land of the living.I will cause you sudden terrors and you will no longer exist; though you will be sought, you will never be found again,” declares the Lord God.

“ And the kings of the earth, who committed acts of sexual immorality and lived luxuriously with her, will weep and mourn over her when they see the smoke of her burning,

and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

and to those who were selling the doves He said,“ Take these things away from here; stop making My Father’s house a place of business!”

Wail, you inhabitants of the Mortar, Because all the people of Canaan will be destroyed; All who weigh out silver will be eliminated.

Neither their silver nor their gold Will be able to save them On the day of the Lord’s anger; And all the earth will be devoured By the fire of His jealousy, For He will make a complete end, Indeed a horrifying one, Of all the inhabitants of the earth.

For her profit is better than the profit of silver, And her produce better than gold.
