我要在你們身上灑清水潔淨你們，洗淨你們所有的污穢，除掉你們心中一切的偶像。

「所以，你要告訴以色列人，主耶和華這樣說，『你們仍像你們祖先一樣與可憎的偶像苟合，玷污自己嗎？

就是你藉著你的僕人——眾先知給我們的吩咐，『你們將要佔領的那片土地被當地人的污穢玷污，他們的可憎行徑使那裡充滿污穢。

不管別人用什麼詭計，你們都不要上當。因為那日子來臨之前，必有離經叛道的事發生，而那不法之徒，就是那註定滅亡的人也要出現。他會抵擋主，高抬自己超過一切所謂的神明和人們崇拜的對象，甚至坐在上帝的殿中以上帝自居！我還在你們那裡的時候，曾告訴過你們這些事，你們忘記了嗎？現在，你們知道是什麼攔阻他，使他等到特定的時間才出現。其實那不法之徒的陰謀已經在醞釀中，然而現在有一位在攔阻他。等到攔阻他的那位一離開，他就會出現，但主耶穌會用自己口中的氣毀滅他，用從天降臨的榮光廢掉他。他來要按照撒旦的伎倆行各樣虛假的異能、神蹟和奇事，用盡各樣詭計欺騙那些將要滅亡的人，因為他們不喜歡接受那能拯救他們的真理。

接著又一位天使說：「巴比倫大城倒塌了！倒塌了！她曾引誘萬民喝她那淫亂的烈酒。」

他做耶和華視為惡的事，效法耶和華在以色列人面前趕走的外族人的可憎行徑。

她的裙子沾滿污穢，她未曾想過自己的結局。她的敗落無比淒慘，無人安慰。她哭喊道：「耶和華啊，仇敵已經獲勝，求你垂顧我的苦難！」

耶和華說：「昔日我看見以色列時，像在荒野看見葡萄；看見你們的祖先時，像在無花果樹上看見初熟的果子。但他們卻祭拜巴力·毗珥，把自己獻給可恥的偶像，變得像他們所愛的偶像一樣可憎。

他反倒祭拜他祖先不認識的堡壘之神，向它獻上金銀寶石及貴重的禮物。

因為祂的審判真實公義，祂懲罰了那用淫亂敗壞世界的大淫婦，為那些被她殺害的奴僕伸冤。」

「至於那些任意妄為、以行可憎之事為樂、宰牛就像殺人、獻羊羔就像打斷狗頸、獻穀物就像獻豬血、燒香就像頌讚偶像的人，

耶路撒冷啊，淫蕩使你污穢不堪，我要潔淨你，你卻不願被潔淨。所以，除非我向你傾盡一切憤怒，否則你的污穢將不能清除。

她怎樣待人，你們也要怎樣待她，要按她所做的加倍地報應她，用她調酒的杯加倍地調給她喝。她過去怎樣自炫自耀、奢華荒淫，現在也要讓她怎樣痛苦哀傷。因為她心裡說，『我貴為女王，不是寡婦，絕不會經歷哀傷。』

國中甚至男廟妓充斥。猶大人仿效耶和華在以色列人面前趕走的外族人，行各種可憎之事。

然後，把倒空的鍋放在炭火上燒熱，把銅燒紅，好熔化它的雜質，除淨鏽垢，

你們也見過他們用木、石、金、銀造的可憎神像。
