他說：「這大巴比倫不是我用大能大力建為京都，要顯我威嚴的榮耀嗎？」

耶和華－以色列的神對我如此說：「你從我手中接這杯忿怒的酒，使我所差遣你去的各國的民喝。他們喝了就要東倒西歪，並要發狂，因我使刀劍臨到他們中間。」

他們的屍首就倒在大城裏的街上；這城按着靈意叫所多瑪，又叫埃及，就是他們的主釘十字架之處。

耶路撒冷啊，興起！興起！站起來！你從耶和華手中喝了他忿怒之杯，喝了那使人東倒西歪的爵，以致喝盡。她所生育的諸子中，沒有一個引導她的；她所養大的諸子中，沒有一個攙扶她的。荒涼、毀滅、饑荒、刀兵，這幾樣臨到你，誰為你舉哀？我如何能安慰你呢？你的眾子發昏，在各市口上躺臥，好像黃羊在網羅之中，都滿了耶和華的忿怒－你神的斥責。因此，你這困苦卻非因酒而醉的，要聽我言。你的主耶和華－就是為他百姓辨屈的神如此說：看哪，我已將那使人東倒西歪的杯，就是我忿怒的爵，從你手中接過來；你必不致再喝。我必將這杯遞在苦待你的人手中；他們曾對你說：你屈身，由我們踐踏過去吧！你便以背為地，好像街市，任人經過。

並且我必使那欺壓你的吃自己的肉，也要以自己的血喝醉，好像喝甜酒一樣。凡有血氣的必都知道我－耶和華是你的救主，是你的救贖主，是雅各的大能者。

在她額上有名寫着說：「奧祕哉！大巴比倫，作世上的淫婦和一切可憎之物的母。」

哀哉！哀哉！這大城啊，素常穿着細麻、紫色、朱紅色的衣服，又用金子、寶石，和珍珠為妝飾。一時之間，這麼大的富厚就歸於無有了。凡船主和坐船往各處去的，並眾水手，連所有靠海為業的，都遠遠地站着，看見燒她的煙，就喊着說：「有何城能比這大城呢？」他們又把塵土撒在頭上，哭泣悲哀，喊着說：哀哉！哀哉！這大城啊。凡有船在海中的，都因她的珍寶成了富足！她在一時之間就成了荒場！

又有第二位天使接着說：「叫萬民喝邪淫、大怒之酒的巴比倫大城傾倒了！傾倒了！」又有第三位天使接着他們，大聲說：「若有人拜獸和獸像，在額上或在手上受了印記，這人也必喝神大怒的酒；此酒斟在神忿怒的杯中純一不雜。他要在聖天使和羔羊面前，在火與硫磺之中受痛苦。

北方遠近的諸王，以及天下地上的萬國喝了，以後示沙克王也要喝。

他大聲喊着說：巴比倫大城傾倒了！傾倒了！成了鬼魔的住處和各樣污穢之靈的巢穴，並各樣污穢可憎之雀鳥的巢穴。
