耶和華以色列的神對我這樣說：“你從我的手中拿這杯烈怒的酒，給列國喝，就是我差遣你去的列國。他們喝了，就會東倒西歪，瘋狂亂性，因為我打發刀劍到他們中間去。”

他們的屍首要倒在大城的街道上。這城按著寓意叫所多瑪，又叫埃及，就是他們的主被釘十字架的地方。

耶路撒冷啊，醒來！醒來！站起來吧！你從耶和華的手中喝了他烈怒的杯，喝盡了那使人搖搖擺擺的爵。她所生的眾子中，沒有一個引導她的；她養大的眾子中，沒有一個扶持她的。荒涼與毀滅，饑荒與刀劍，這兩樣臨到你，誰為你悲哀呢？誰能安慰你呢？（按照《馬索拉文本》，“誰能安慰你呢？”作“我如何能安慰你呢？”；現參照《死海古卷》和其他古譯本翻譯）你的眾子昏倒了，在各街頭上躺臥，好像羚羊在網羅之中；他們飽嘗了耶和華的烈怒，你的神的斥責。所以，你這困苦的，不是因酒而醉倒的，要聽這話。你的主耶和華，就是為自己的子民爭辯的神，這樣說：“看哪！我已經把那使人搖搖擺擺的杯，就是我烈怒的爵，從你的手裡挪去了；你必不再喝這杯。我必把這杯放在那些苦待你的人的手裡；他們曾對你說：‘你屈身俯伏，讓我們走過去吧！’你就以你的背作陸地，作街道，任由他們踏過去。”

我要使那些欺壓你的人，吃自己的肉；他們必喝自己的血醉倒，好像喝了甜酒一樣；那麼所有的人都必知道，我耶和華是你的拯救者，是你的救贖主，是雅各的大能者。”

她額上寫著一個名號：“奧祕，大巴比倫，地上的淫婦和可憎的物之母。”

說：‘有禍了！有禍了！這大城啊！就是一向穿著細麻布、紫色、朱紅色的衣服，佩戴著金子、寶石和珍珠裝飾的，一時之間，這麼大的財富竟蕩然無存！’“所有船長、旅客、水手，以及凡是靠海謀生的，都遠遠地站著。他們看見了焚燒她的煙，就喊叫說：‘有哪一座城能與這大城相比呢？’他們又把塵土撒在自己頭上，痛哭悲哀，喊著說：‘有禍了！有禍了！這大城啊！凡是有船航行海上的，都因這城的財寶發了財；一時之間她竟成了荒場！’

又有第二位天使接著說：“傾倒了！大巴比倫傾倒了！它曾經叫列國喝它淫亂烈怒的酒。”又有第三位天使接著他們大聲說：“如果有人拜獸和獸像，又在自己的額上或手上受了記號，他就必定喝神烈怒的酒：這酒是斟在神震怒的杯中，純一不雜的。他必定在眾天使和羊羔面前，在火與硫磺之中受痛苦。

北方遠近的列王，一個一個，以及地上的萬國，就是在這地面上的列國，都喝了；他們喝了以後，示沙克王也要喝。

他用強有力的聲音呼喊說：“傾倒了！大巴比倫傾倒了！成了鬼魔的住處，各樣污靈的監獄，一切污穢可憎之雀鳥的牢籠，
