說：「這宏偉的巴比倫豈不是我用大能建立為京都，以顯我的威嚴和榮耀嗎？」

以色列的上帝耶和華對我說：「你從我手中接過這盛滿我烈怒的酒杯，到我差遣你去的國家給他們喝。他們喝了這杯烈怒後必東倒西歪、行為瘋狂，因為我要使戰禍臨到他們。」

他們便陳屍在大城的街上，這大城按寓意名叫所多瑪，又名埃及，是他們的主被釘在十字架上的地方。

耶路撒冷啊，醒來，醒來，站起來吧！你從耶和華手中的杯裡喝了祂的憤怒，喝乾了那杯使人東倒西歪的酒。你生育的兒子沒有一個來引導你，你撫養成人的眾子沒有一個來攙扶你。荒涼、毀滅、饑荒、戰禍已臨到你身上，誰會為你哀哭呢？誰能安慰你呢？你的兒子們昏倒在街頭，好像羚羊掉進網羅，你的上帝耶和華把祂的憤怒和責備重重地降在他們身上。你這身受痛苦、並非因酒而醉的人啊，要聽我的話。你的主耶和華是為祂子民申辯的上帝，祂說：「看啊，我已從你手中拿走那使人東倒西歪的杯和盛滿我憤怒的碗，你必不再喝。我必把這杯給苦待你的人，他們曾對你說，『趴下，我們好從你身上走過。』你曾把你的背當作地面，當作街道任人踐踏。」

我要使那些欺壓你的人吞吃自己的肉，喝自己的血喝得酩酊大醉，好像喝酒一樣。那時候，世人都必知道我耶和華是你的救主，是你的救贖主，是雅各的大能者。」

在她額上還寫了一個神秘的名號：「大巴比倫——地上淫婦及可憎事物之母」。

說，『身穿紫色和朱紅色的細麻布衣服，以黃金、寶石、珍珠為裝飾的大城啊，真悲慘！真悲慘！因為頃刻間你這一切的繁華都化為烏有了。』所有船主、乘客、水手及靠海為生的人都遠遠地站著，看見燒她的煙，就說，『有哪一座城能與她相比呢？』他們又把塵土撒在頭上，哀傷哭泣，喊著說，『這大城啊，真悲慘！真悲慘！所有經營航運的都因她的奢華而發了財，可是頃刻間她卻淪為廢墟了！』

接著又一位天使說：「巴比倫大城倒塌了！倒塌了！她曾引誘萬民喝她那淫亂的烈酒。」之後，第三位天使高喊：「一切敬拜怪獸和牠的像、在手或額上接受獸印的，都要喝上帝震怒的烈酒，就是祂怒杯裡毫無摻雜的烈酒。他們要在聖天使和羔羊面前，在火和硫磺中受煎熬。

北方諸王——無論遠近、一個接一個，以及天下萬國，最後是巴比倫王。

他用強有力的聲音喊著說：「巴比倫大城倒塌了！倒塌了！她成了鬼魔的住處、各樣污鬼的監獄和一切可憎的不潔鳥獸的牢籠！
