引人入甕者終必自入甕中；殺人以刀者、終必自傷刀下。諸聖之恆忍堅信、於是乎存。

凡宜見虜者則見虜、以刃殺人者、則必見殺於刃、諸聖徒之忍與信在此矣、○

凡擄人者亦見擄、以刃殺人者亦被刃殺、聖徒之恆忍與信在此矣、○

“ If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity they will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword they will be killed.” This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people.

“ Everyone who is supposed to be captured will be captured. Everyone who is supposed to be killed by a sword will be killed by a sword.”( Jeremiah 15:2) So God’s people must be patient and faithful.

If anyone is to be taken captive, to captivity he goes; if anyone is to be slain with the sword, with the sword must he be slain. Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints.

Anyone who is destined for prison will be taken to prison. Anyone destined to die by the sword will die by the sword. This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently and remain faithful.

If anyone is to be taken captive, into captivity he goes. If anyone is to be killed with a sword, with a sword he will be killed. This calls for endurance and faithfulness from the saints.

爾既守吾寬忍之道、吾亦當於全世之人遭受試練時、保爾於難。

凡我兄弟、應安心忍耐以俟主來。夫農夫之望收穫嘉穀、必須弗助弗忘、以待秋霖春雨之膏澤也。爾亦當學農夫之忍耐、堅定爾心。蓋主之來臨不遠矣。

耶穌曰：『納爾刀於鞘！蓋操刀者必傷於刀也。

堅忍不拔、必保爾靈。

諸聖之恆忍、於斯乎存。諸聖無他、即恪守天主之誡命、與夫耶穌之信條者是。

切勿有所懈弛、當踵效昔賢、篤信不移、堅忍不拔、而終得承嗣恩諾也。

爾之行實、爾之堅苦忍耐、悉在吾洞鑒之中；亦知爾不肯優容惡人、凡冒充宗徒者、爾竟能嚴加審察、而揭其偽妄；

蓋欲奉行天主之旨而獲所諾、則耐德尚矣。『尚待片晷、須臾之間、彈指之頃、而將臨者自至、其必不復稽延矣！

耶穌復設一喻、勸人恆禱、無餒於心、曰『昔有邑宰、不敬天主、無恤於人。邑中有一嫠婦含冤、頻來訴、請為昭雪。邑宰置不理、既而自思曰：「吾雖不畏天命、不恤人言、奈此婦糾纏不休、姑為伸雪、用杜煩瀆。」』主又曰：『爾其識之！夫彼不義之宰、尚如是言、況在天主、焉能不聽其選民之日夜呼籲、而為之昭雪乎？又焉能漠視其困苦、而久置不理乎？予實語爾、天主必迅予昭雪矣。雖然、人子重臨之日、猶能見篤信之德、存於人世否乎？』

爾之行實、爾之仁愛、篤信、黽勉、忍耐、悉在吾洞鑒之中；且知爾近來勉益加勉、成績斐然、超邁當初。

我若望為爾之同胞、與爾在耶穌懷中共受患難、同屬一國、而咸秉忍辱負重之德。吾因天主之明訓及耶穌之妙證、而被流至巴脫摩海島。

若輩既流先知眾聖之血、則爾飲之以血、不亦宜乎。」

我兄弟如陷於殷憂多難之中、則當引以為樂。須知橫逆之來、能磨練爾之信德、使爾堅忍不拔，而堅忍不拔、乃所以玉汝於成、而躋爾於純全無缺之地也。

應回憶所受所聞之教義拳拳服膺、而痛悔前失。如再不醒寤、吾必襲爾、猶不速之客突如其來、爾固無從逆知其時刻也。

而甘嘗垢辱、毅然肩負苦架。今則安坐天主寶位之右矣。爾等當細心體驗、耶穌當時如何忍受群小之拂逆、庶幾不致灰心而自餒。爾等之抵抗罪孽、究竟未至流血也。

體認天主、日新又新、仰賴天主榮耀之宏能，充以神力、俾克忍耐諸苦、顛沛造次、不改其樂；

蓋爾所責於人者、必有援以責爾者；爾所用以繩人者、必有執以繩爾者。
