“ And the king shall do as he wills. He shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak astonishing things against the God of gods. He shall prosper till the indignation is accomplished; for what is decreed shall be done.

Daniel declared,“ I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea.And four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another.

After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, terrifying and dreadful and exceedingly strong. It had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces and stamped what was left with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots. And behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.

And the ten horns that you saw, they and the beast will hate the prostitute. They will make her desolate and naked, and devour her flesh and burn her up with fire,

But the angel said to me,“ Why do you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast with seven heads and ten horns that carries her.The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to rise from the bottomless pit and go to destruction. And the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel to see the beast, because it was and is not and is to come.This calls for a mind with wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated;they are also seven kings, five of whom have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and when he does come he must remain only a little while.As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction.And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast.

And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire— and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands.

Do you not fear me? declares the Lord. Do you not tremble before me? I placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail; though they roar, they cannot pass over it.

And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months.It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven.

Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.

And on her forehead was written a name of mystery:“ Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth’s abominations.”
