Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and the other half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it as the people listened; and they said,“ All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!”So Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said,“ Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”

Then he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet. There He made for them a statute and regulation, and there He tested them.

Samuel took a nursing lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord; and Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him.Now Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, and the Philistines advanced to battle Israel. But the Lord thundered with a great thunder on that day against the Philistines and confused them, so that they were struck down before Israel.And the men of Israel came out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and killed them as far as below Beth car.Then Samuel took a stone and placed it between Mizpah and Shen, and named it Ebenezer, saying,“ So far the Lord has helped us.”

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward.

And you shall slaughter the bull before the Lord at the doorway of the tent of meeting.Then you shall take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger; and you shall pour out all the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.And you shall take all the fat that covers the entrails, and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and offer them up in smoke on the altar.But the flesh of the bull and its hide and its refuse, you shall burn with fire outside the camp; it is a sin offering.“ You shall also take the one ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram;and you shall slaughter the ram and take its blood and sprinkle it around on the altar.Then you shall cut the ram into its pieces, and wash its entrails and its legs, and put them with its pieces and its head.And you shall offer up in smoke the whole ram on the altar; it is a burnt offering to the Lord: it is a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to the Lord.“ Then you shall take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram.And you shall slaughter the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear and on the lobes of his sons’ right ears, and on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet, and sprinkle the rest of the blood around on the altar.Then you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments, and on his sons and on his sons’ garments with him; so he and his garments shall be consecrated, as well as his sons and his sons’ garments with him.“ You shall also take the fat from the ram and the fat tail, and the fat that covers the entrails and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and the right thigh( for it is a ram of ordination),and one loaf of bread, and one cake of bread mixed with oil, and one wafer from the basket of unleavened bread which is set before the Lord;and you shall put all these in the hands of Aaron and in the hands of his sons, and shall wave them as a wave offering before the Lord.Then you shall take them from their hands, and offer them up in smoke on the altar on the burnt offering for a soothing aroma before the Lord; it is an offering by fire to the Lord.“ Then you shall take the breast of Aaron’s ram of ordination, and wave it as a wave offering before the Lord; and it shall be your portion.You shall consecrate the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution which was waved and which was offered from the ram of ordination, from the one which was for Aaron and from the one which was for his sons.It shall be for Aaron and his sons as their portion forever from the sons of Israel, for it is a contribution; and it shall be a contribution from the sons of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, their contribution to the Lord.“ The holy garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him, so that they may be anointed and ordained in them.For seven days the one of his sons who is priest in his place shall put them on when he enters the tent of meeting to minister in the Holy Place.“ Now you shall take the ram of ordination and boil its flesh in a holy place.Then Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket, at the doorway of the tent of meeting.So they shall eat those things by which atonement was made at their ordination and consecration; but a layman shall not eat them, because they are holy.And if any of the flesh of ordination or any of the bread remains until morning, then you shall burn the remainder with fire; it shall not be eaten, because it is holy.“ So you shall do for Aaron and for his sons, according to all that I have commanded you; you shall ordain them for seven days.Each day you shall offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement, and you shall purify the altar when you make atonement for it, and you shall anoint it to consecrate it.For seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and consecrate it; then the altar shall be most holy, and whatever touches the altar shall be holy.

Then Moses said to the Lord,“ See, You say to me,‘ Bring up this people!’ But You Yourself have not let me know whom You will send with me. Moreover, You have said,‘ I have known you by name, and you have also found favor in My sight.’Now then, if I have found favor in Your sight in any way, please let me know Your ways so that I may know You, in order that I may find favor in Your sight. Consider too, that this nation is Your people.”And He said,“ My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.”Then he said to Him,“ If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here.

So Samuel called to the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day; and all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel.Then all the people said to Samuel,“ Pray to the Lord your God for your servants, so that we do not die; for we have added to all our sins this evil, by asking for ourselves a king.”Samuel said to the people,“ Do not fear. You have committed all this evil, yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart.Indeed, you must not turn aside, for then you would go after useless things which cannot benefit or save, because they are useless.For the Lord will not abandon His people on account of His great name, because the Lord has been pleased to make you a people for Himself.Furthermore, as for me, far be it from me that I would sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and right way.Only fear the Lord and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.

And on the next day Moses said to the people,“ You yourselves have committed a great sin; and now I am going up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”

And he set the arrangement of bread in order on it before the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.Then he placed the lampstand in the tent of meeting, opposite the table, on the south side of the tabernacle.And he lighted the lamps before the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.Then he placed the gold altar in the tent of meeting in front of the veil;and he burned fragrant incense on it, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.Then he set up the curtain for the doorway of the tabernacle.And he set the altar of burnt offering in front of the doorway of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the meal offering, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

But Moses said to the Lord,“ Then the Egyptians will hear of it, for by Your strength You brought this people up from their midst,and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that You, Lord, are in the midst of this people, because You, Lord, are seen eye to eye, while Your cloud stands over them; and You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.Now if You put this people to death all at once, then the nations who have heard of Your fame will say,‘ Since the Lord could not bring this people into the land which He promised them by oath, He slaughtered them in the wilderness.’So now, please, let the power of the Lord be great, just as You have declared, saying,‘ The Lord is slow to anger and abundant in mercy, forgiving wrongdoing and violation of His Law; but He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, inflicting the punishment of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generations.’Please forgive the guilt of this people in accordance with the greatness of Your mercy, just as You also have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”So the Lord said,“ I have forgiven them in accordance with your word;

“ Separate yourselves from among this congregation, so that I may consume them instantly.”But they fell on their faces and said,“ God, the God of the spirits of humanity, when one person sins, will You be angry with the entire congregation?”

Then Moses pleaded with the Lord his God, and said,“ Lord, why does Your anger burn against Your people whom You have brought out from the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?Why should the Egyptians talk, saying,‘ With evil motives He brought them out, to kill them on the mountains and to destroy them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your burning anger and relent of doing harm to Your people.Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them,‘ I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens, and all this land of which I have spoken I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’ ”So the Lord relented of the harm which He said He would do to His people.

Then Aaron took it just as Moses had spoken, and he ran into the midst of the assembly; and behold, the plague had begun among the people. So he put on the incense and made atonement for the people.And he took his stand between the dead and the living, so that the plague was brought to a halt.

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,“ Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments and the anointing oil, and the bull of the sin offering, and the two rams and the basket of unleavened bread,and assemble all the congregation at the doorway of the tent of meeting.”So Moses did just as the Lord commanded him. When the congregation was assembled at the doorway of the tent of meeting,Moses said to the congregation,“ This is the thing which the Lord has commanded us to do.”Then Moses had Aaron and his sons come near, and he washed them with water.Then he put the tunic on Aaron and wrapped his waist with the sash, and clothed him with the robe and put the ephod on him; and he wrapped his waist with the artistic band of the ephod, with which he fitted it to him.He then placed the breastpiece on him, and in the breastpiece he put the Urim and the Thummim.He also placed the turban on his head, and on the turban, at its front, he placed the golden plate, the holy crown, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.Moses then took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and everything that was in it, and consecrated them.He also sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times and anointed the altar and all its utensils, and the basin and its stand, to consecrate them.Then he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed him, to consecrate him.Next Moses had Aaron’s sons come near, and he clothed them with tunics and wrapped their waists with sashes, and bound caps on them, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.Then he brought the bull of the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull of the sin offering.Next Moses slaughtered it and took the blood and with his finger put some of it around on the horns of the altar, and purified the altar. Then he poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar and consecrated it, to make atonement for it.He also took all the fat that was on the entrails and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat; and Moses offered it up in smoke on the altar.But the bull and its hide, its flesh, and its refuse he burned in the fire outside the camp, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.Then he presented the ram of the burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram.And Moses slaughtered it and sprinkled the blood around on the altar.When he had cut the ram into its pieces, Moses offered up the head and the pieces and the suet in smoke.After he had washed the entrails and the legs with water, Moses offered up the whole ram in smoke on the altar. It was a burnt offering for a soothing aroma; it was an offering by fire to the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.Then he presented the second ram, the ram of ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram.And Moses slaughtered it and took some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, and on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot.He also had Aaron’s sons come near; and Moses put some of the blood on the lobe of their right ear, and on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot. Moses then sprinkled the rest of the blood around on the altar.He then took the fat, and the fat tail, and all the fat that was on the entrails, and the lobe of the liver, the two kidneys and their fat, and the right thigh.And from the basket of unleavened bread that was before the Lord, he took one unleavened cake and one cake of bread mixed with oil and one wafer, and placed them on the portions of fat and on the right thigh.He then put all these on the hands of Aaron and on the hands of his sons, and presented them as a wave offering before the Lord.Then Moses took them from their hands and offered them up in smoke on the altar with the burnt offering. They were an ordination offering for a soothing aroma; it was an offering by fire to the Lord.Moses also took the breast and presented it as a wave offering before the Lord; it was Moses’ portion of the ram of ordination, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.So Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood which was on the altar, and sprinkled it on Aaron, on his garments, on his sons, and on the garments of his sons with him; and he consecrated Aaron, his garments, and his sons, and the garments of his sons with him.
