My son, despise not the chastening of Jehovah; Neither be weary of his reproof:For whom Jehovah loveth he reproveth, Even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.

and ye have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when thou art reproved of him;For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father chasteneth not?But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, even the fruit of righteousness.

But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

It is good for me that I have been afflicted; That I may learn thy statutes.

Then he openeth the ears of men, And sealeth their instruction,That he may withdraw man from his purpose, And hide pride from man;He keepeth back his soul from the pit, And his life from perishing by the sword.He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, And with continual strife in his bones;So that his life abhorreth bread, And his soul dainty food.His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; And his bones that were not seen stick out.Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit, And his life to the destroyers.If there be with him an angel, An interpreter, one among a thousand, To show unto man what is right for him;Then God is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s; He returneth to the days of his youth.

As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Before I was afflicted I went astray; But now I observe thy word.

And thou shalt consider in thy heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so Jehovah thy God chasteneth thee.

The voice of Jehovah crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom will see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.
