You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

Paul gathered some sticks and put them on the fire. A poisonous snake was driven out by the heat. It fastened itself on Paul’s hand.The people of the island saw the snake hanging from his hand. They said to one another,“ This man must be a murderer. He escaped from the sea. But the female god Justice won’t let him live.”Paul shook the snake off into the fire. He was not harmed.The people expected him to swell up. They thought he would suddenly fall dead. They waited for a long time. But they didn’t see anything unusual happen to him. So they changed their minds. They said he was a god.

“ Their throats are like open graves. With their tongues they tell lies.”( Psalm 5:9)“ The words from their lips are like the poison of a snake.”( Psalm 140:3)

Samson went down to Timnah. His father and mother went with him. They approached the vineyards of Timnah. Suddenly a young lion came roaring toward Samson.Then the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully on Samson. So he tore the lion apart with his bare hands. He did it as easily as he might have torn a young goat apart. But he didn’t tell his father or mother what he had done.

I saw an angel coming down out of heaven. He had the key to the Abyss. In his hand he held a heavy chain.He grabbed the dragon, that old serpent. The serpent is also called the devil, or Satan. The angel put him in chains for 1,000 years.

You will make a covenant with the stones in the fields. They won’t keep your crops from growing. Even wild animals will be at peace with you.

At that time the Lord will punish Leviathan with his sword. His great, powerful and deadly sword will punish the serpent that glides through the sea. He will kill that twisting sea monster.

Their words are like the poison of a snake. They are like the poison of a cobra that has covered up its ears.

The great dragon was thrown down to the earth, and his angels with him. The dragon is that old serpent called the devil, or Satan. He leads the whole world astray.
