Endless ruin has overtaken my enemies, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished.

My enemies have been destroyed forever. You have leveled their cities to the ground. Even the memory of them is gone.

The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins; their cities you rooted out; the very memory of them has perished.

This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says:“ I, myself, have risen against Babylon! I will destroy its children and its children’s children,” says the Lord.“ I will make Babylon a desolate place of owls, filled with swamps and marshes. I will sweep the land with the broom of destruction. I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!”

Do not gloat over me, my enemies! For though I fall, I will rise again. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.

But Moses told the people,“ Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.

He boasts,“ By my own powerful arm I have done this. With my own shrewd wisdom I planned it. I have broken down the defenses of nations and carried off their treasures. I have knocked down their kings like a bull.I have robbed their nests of riches and gathered up kingdoms as a farmer gathers eggs. No one can even flap a wing against me or utter a peep of protest.”

“ But have you not heard? I decided this long ago. Long ago I planned it, and now I am making it happen. I planned for you to crush fortified cities into heaps of rubble.

Then say,‘ Lord, you have said that you will destroy Babylon so that neither people nor animals will remain here. She will lie empty and abandoned forever.’When you have finished reading the scroll, tie it to a stone and throw it into the Euphrates River.Then say,‘ In this same way Babylon and her people will sink, never again to rise, because of the disasters I will bring upon her.’” This is the end of Jeremiah’s messages.

And the last enemy to be destroyed is death.

He seized the dragon— that old serpent, who is the devil, Satan— and bound him in chains for a thousand years.

So this is what the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, says:“ O my people in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrians when they oppress you with rod and club as the Egyptians did long ago.In a little while my anger against you will end, and then my anger will rise up to destroy them.”

Why are you scheming against the Lord? He will destroy you with one blow; he won’t need to strike twice!His enemies, tangled like thornbushes and staggering like drunks, will be burned up like dry stubble in a field.Who is this wicked counselor of yours who plots evil against the Lord?This is what the Lord says:“ Though the Assyrians have many allies, they will be destroyed and disappear. O my people, I have punished you before, but I will not punish you again.Now I will break the yoke of bondage from your neck and tear off the chains of Assyrian oppression.”

I am sending Assyria against a godless nation, against a people with whom I am angry. Assyria will plunder them, trampling them like dirt beneath its feet.But the king of Assyria will not understand that he is my tool; his mind does not work that way. His plan is simply to destroy, to cut down nation after nation.

You struck the people with endless blows of rage and held the nations in your angry grip with unrelenting tyranny.But finally the earth is at rest and quiet. You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.
