You have made us a reproach to our neighbors, the scorn and derision of those around us.You have made us a byword among the nations; the peoples shake their heads at us.I live in disgrace all day long, and my face is covered with shameat the taunts of those who reproach and revile me, because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge.

For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written:“ The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”

Why should the nations say,“ Where is their God?” Before our eyes, make known among the nations that you avenge the outpoured blood of your servants.May the groans of the prisoners come before you; with your strong arm preserve those condemned to die.Pay back into the laps of our neighbors seven times the contempt they have hurled at you, Lord.

You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you.Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none.
