He is the one who will build a Temple to honor my name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. And I will secure the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!

On that day the Lord will defend the people of Jerusalem; the weakest among them will be as mighty as King David! And the royal descendants will be like God, like the angel of the Lord who goes before them!

“ I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this message for the churches. I am both the source of David and the heir to his throne. I am the bright morning star.”

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names,that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

I will preserve an heir for him; his throne will be as endless as the days of heaven.

The Good News is about his Son. In his earthly life he was born into King David’s family line,and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.

His dynasty will go on forever; his kingdom will endure as the sun.

then I will establish the throne of your dynasty over Israel forever. For I made this promise to your father, David:‘ One of your descendants will always sit on the throne of Israel.’

May the king’s name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed through him and bring him praise.

“ And now we are here to bring you this Good News. The promise was made to our ancestors,and God has now fulfilled it for us, their descendants, by raising Jesus. This is what the second psalm says about Jesus:‘ You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.’For God had promised to raise him from the dead, not leaving him to rot in the grave. He said,‘ I will give you the sacred blessings I promised to David.’Another psalm explains it more fully:‘ You will not allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.’This is not a reference to David, for after David had done the will of God in his own generation, he died and was buried with his ancestors, and his body decayed.No, it was a reference to someone else— someone whom God raised and whose body did not decay.

And in another place Isaiah said,“ The heir to David’s throne will come, and he will rule over the Gentiles. They will place their hope on him.”

I will sing of the Lord’s unfailing love forever! Young and old will hear of your faithfulness.

Then Jesus presented them with a question.“ Why is it,” he asked,“ that the Messiah is said to be the son of David?For David himself wrote in the book of Psalms:‘ The Lord said to my Lord, Sit in the place of honor at my right handuntil I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.’Since David called the Messiah‘ Lord,’ how can the Messiah be his son?”

And now, may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you have spoken, and when you grant a blessing to your servant, O Sovereign Lord, it is an eternal blessing!”
