I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging;

Then I will punish them for their sins. I will strike them with a rod. I will whip them for their evil acts.

I will be his father, and he will be my son. If he sins, I will correct and discipline him with the rod, like any father would do.

For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father?If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all.Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn’t we submit even more to the discipline of the Father of our spirits, and live forever?For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness.No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening— it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

The mediator could make God stop beating me, and I would no longer live in terror of his punishment.

Because of Solomon’s sin I will punish the descendants of David— though not forever.’”

My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you.For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.

In this way, Solomon did what was evil in the Lord’s sight; he refused to follow the Lord completely, as his father, David, had done.

“ From among all the families on the earth, I have been intimate with you alone. That is why I must punish you for all your sins.”

Then the Lord raised up Hadad the Edomite, a member of Edom’s royal family, to be Solomon’s adversary.

Now go, lead the people to the place I told you about. Look! My angel will lead the way before you. And when I come to call the people to account, I will certainly hold them responsible for their sins.”

But if we would examine ourselves, we would not be judged by God in this way.Yet when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned along with the world.
