The LORD said,“ I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have made a promise on oath to David, my servant:

“ I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David, my servant,

The LORD made a reliable promise to David; he will not go back on his word. He said,“ I will place one of your descendants on your throne.

I will establish a place for my people Israel and settle them there; they will live there and not be disturbed any more. Violent men will not oppress them again, as they did in the beginningand during the time when I appointed judges to lead my people Israel. Instead, I will give you relief from all your enemies. The LORD declares to you that he himself will build a dynastic house for you.When the time comes for you to die, I will raise up your descendant, one of your own sons, to succeed you, and I will establish his kingdom.He will build a house for my name, and I will make his dynasty permanent.I will become his father and he will become my son. When he sins, I will correct him with the rod of men and with wounds inflicted by human beings.But my loyal love will not be removed from him as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.Your house and your kingdom will stand before me permanently; your dynasty will be permanent.’”

“ I, LORD, make the following promise:‘ I have made a covenant with the day and with the night that they will always come at their proper times. Only if you people could break that covenantcould my covenant with my servant David and my covenant with the Levites ever be broken. So David will by all means always have a descendant to occupy his throne as king and the Levites will by all means always have priests who will minister before me.

And a voice from heaven said,“ This is my one dear Son; in him I take great delight.”

He told David,‘ Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from all the tribes of Israel to build a temple in which to live. But I have chosen David to lead my people Israel.’

But they will be subject to the LORD their God and to the Davidic ruler whom I will raise up as king over them.

So then, because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne,

I will not break my covenant or go back on what I promised.Once and for all I have vowed by my own holiness, I will never deceive David.

“ Here is my servant whom I support, my chosen one in whom I take pleasure. I have placed my spirit on him; he will make just decrees for the nations.

“ Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I take great delight. I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.He will not quarrel or cry out, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.He will not break a bruised reed or extinguish a smoldering wick, until he brings justice to victory.And in his name the Gentiles will hope.”

He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will never end.”

You have repudiated your covenant with your servant; you have thrown his crown to the ground.

but Jesus did so with a sworn affirmation by the one who said to him,“ The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind,‘ You are a priest forever’”–

My dynasty is approved by God, for he has made a perpetual covenant with me, arranged in all its particulars and secured. He always delivers me, and brings all I desire to fruition.

He chose David, his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds.

I will set one shepherd over them, and he will feed them– namely, my servant David. He will feed them and will be their shepherd.I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them; I, the LORD, have spoken!

Pay attention and come to me! Listen, so you can live! Then I will make an unconditional covenantal promise to you, just like the reliable covenantal promises I made to David.

God will severely judge Abner if I do not do for David exactly what the LORD has promised him,

Afterward, the Israelites will turn and seek the LORD their God and their Davidic king. Then they will submit to the LORD in fear and receive his blessings in the future.

I will always extend my loyal love to him, and my covenant with him is secure.
