I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted.

From my youth I have suffered and been close to death; I have borne your terrors and am in despair.

I’ve been in pain ever since I was young. I’ve been close to death. You have made me suffer terrible things. I have lost all hope.

Afflicted and close to death from my youth up, I suffer your terrors; I am helpless.

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me. My spirit drinks up their poison. The terrors of God set themselves in array against me.

“ Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.Am I a sea, or a sea monster, that you put a guard over me?When I say,‘ My bed will comfort me. My couch will ease my complaint;’then you scare me with dreams, and terrify me through visions:so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones.I loathe my life. I don’t want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering and acquainted with disease. He was despised as one from whom men hide their face; and we didn’t respect him.

I am poured out like water. All my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax. It is melted within me.My strength is dried up like a potsherd. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have brought me into the dust of death.

“ My spirit is consumed. My days are extinct, and the grave is ready for me.

“ Awake, sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me,” says Yahweh of Armies.“ Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn my hand against the little ones.

My days are past. My plans are broken off, as are the thoughts of my heart.They change the night into day, saying‘ The light is near’ in the presence of darkness.If I look for Sheol as my house, if I have spread my couch in the darkness,if I have said to corruption,‘ You are my father;’ to the worm,‘ My mother,’ and‘ My sister,’where then is my hope? as for my hope, who will see it?Shall it go down with me to the gates of Sheol, or descend together into the dust?”

Yet it pleased Yahweh to bruise him. He has caused him to suffer. When you make his soul an offering for sin, he will see his offspring. He will prolong his days and Yahweh’s pleasure will prosper in his hand.

For all day long I have been plagued, and punished every morning.

Being in agony he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.
