上帝歟、驕傲之輩、起而攻我、強暴之黨、索我之命、目中無爾兮、

上帝兮、驕矜之輩、起而叛余、強悍之黨、謀害我命、彼不敬畏爾兮。

天主歟、驕傲之人、群起攻擊我、強橫之黨類、欲索我命、彼皆目中無天主、

驕人悻悻。逞其狂傲。群逆結黨。恣其凶暴。目中無主。哀哉不肖。

God, proud people are attacking me. A gang of mean people is trying to kill me. They don’t care about you.

O God, insolent men have risen up against me; a band of ruthless men seeks my life, and they do not set you before them.

O God, insolent people rise up against me; a violent gang is trying to kill me. You mean nothing to them.

God, arrogant people have attacked me; a gang of ruthless men intends to kill me. They do not let you guide them.

God, arrogant men have risen up against me, And a gang of violent men have sought my life, And they have not set You before them.

O God, the proud have risen against me, And a mob of violent men have sought my life, And have not set You before them.

O God, the proud are risen up against me, And a company of violent men have sought after my soul, And have not set thee before them.

God, arrogant people have attacked me; a gang of ruthless men seeks my life. They have no regard for You.

O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent[ men] have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them.

O God, arrogant men attack me; a gang of ruthless men, who do not respect you, seek my life.

God, the proud have risen up against me. A company of violent men have sought after my soul, and they don’t hold regard for you before them.

Arrogant foes are attacking me; ruthless people are trying to kill me— people without regard for God.

The arrogant dig pits to trap me, contrary to your law.

May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.

He says to himself,“ God will never notice; he covers his face and never sees.”

Absalom said to Ahithophel,“ Give us your advice. What should we do?”Ahithophel answered,“ Sleep with your father’s concubines whom he left to take care of the palace. Then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself obnoxious to your father, and the hands of everyone with you will be more resolute.”So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and he slept with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.Now in those days the advice Ahithophel gave was like that of one who inquires of God. That was how both David and Absalom regarded all of Ahithophel’s advice.Ahithophel said to Absalom,“ I would choose twelve thousand men and set out tonight in pursuit of David.

Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself,“ He won’t call me to account”?

I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Absalom and all the men of Israel said,“ The advice of Hushai the Arkite is better than that of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had determined to frustrate the good advice of Ahithophel in order to bring disaster on Absalom.

Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on the Lord.

The arrogant mock me unmercifully, but I do not turn from your law.

He said to me,“ Son of man, have you seen what the elders of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say,‘ The Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land.’”

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.

In the course of time, Absalom provided himself with a chariot and horses and with fifty men to run ahead of him.He would get up early and stand by the side of the road leading to the city gate. Whenever anyone came with a complaint to be placed before the king for a decision, Absalom would call out to him,“ What town are you from?” He would answer,“ Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel.”Then Absalom would say to him,“ Look, your claims are valid and proper, but there is no representative of the king to hear you.”And Absalom would add,“ If only I were appointed judge in the land! Then everyone who has a complaint or case could come to me and I would see that they receive justice.”Also, whenever anyone approached him to bow down before him, Absalom would reach out his hand, take hold of him and kiss him.Absalom behaved in this way toward all the Israelites who came to the king asking for justice, and so he stole the hearts of the people of Israel.At the end of four years, Absalom said to the king,“ Let me go to Hebron and fulfill a vow I made to the Lord.While your servant was living at Geshur in Aram, I made this vow:‘ If the Lord takes me back to Jerusalem, I will worship the Lord in Hebron.’”The king said to him,“ Go in peace.” So he went to Hebron.Then Absalom sent secret messengers throughout the tribes of Israel to say,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpets, then say,‘ Absalom is king in Hebron.’”Two hundred men from Jerusalem had accompanied Absalom. They had been invited as guests and went quite innocently, knowing nothing about the matter.While Absalom was offering sacrifices, he also sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, to come from Giloh, his hometown. And so the conspiracy gained strength, and Absalom’s following kept on increasing.

Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed.So they bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate the governor.

Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed.They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.

In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.

The arrogant have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path.

He answered me,“ The sin of the people of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great; the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of injustice. They say,‘ The Lord has forsaken the land; the Lord does not see.’

Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies, I keep your precepts with all my heart.
