天主歟、驕傲之人、群起攻擊我、強橫之黨類、欲索我命、彼皆目中無天主、

驕人悻悻。逞其狂傲。群逆結黨。恣其凶暴。目中無主。哀哉不肖。

Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God; ruthless people are trying to kill me— they have no regard for you.

God, proud people are attacking me. A gang of mean people is trying to kill me. They don’t care about you.

O God, insolent men have risen up against me; a band of ruthless men seeks my life, and they do not set you before them.

O God, insolent people rise up against me; a violent gang is trying to kill me. You mean nothing to them.

God, arrogant men have risen up against me, And a gang of violent men have sought my life, And they have not set You before them.

O God, the proud have risen against me, And a mob of violent men have sought my life, And have not set You before them.

O God, the proud are risen up against me, And a company of violent men have sought after my soul, And have not set thee before them.

He says to himself,“ God has forgotten; he hides his face and will never see.”

Then Absalom said to Ahithophel,“ Give me your advice. What should we do?”Ahithophel replied to Absalom,“ Sleep with your father’s concubines whom he left to take care of the palace. When all Israel hears that you have become repulsive to your father, everyone with you will be encouraged.”So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and he slept with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.Now the advice Ahithophel gave in those days was like someone asking about a word from God— such was the regard that both David and Absalom had for Ahithophel’s advice.Ahithophel said to Absalom,“ Let me choose twelve thousand men, and I will set out in pursuit of David tonight.

Why has the wicked person despised God? He says to himself,“ You will not demand an account.”

An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked person: Dread of God has no effect on him.

Since the LORD had decreed that Ahithophel’s good advice be undermined in order to bring about Absalom’s ruin, Absalom and all the men of Israel said,“ The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than Ahithophel’s advice.”

Will evildoers never understand? They consume my people as they consume bread; they do not call on the LORD.

The arrogant constantly ridicule me, but I do not turn away from your instruction.

He said to me,“ Son of man, do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his idol? For they are saying,‘ The LORD does not see us. The LORD has abandoned the land.’”

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the courtyard of the high priest, who was named Caiaphas,and they conspired to arrest Jesus in a treacherous way and kill him.

After this, Absalom got himself a chariot, horses, and fifty men to run before him.He would get up early and stand beside the road leading to the city gate. Whenever anyone had a grievance to bring before the king for settlement, Absalom called out to him and asked,“ What city are you from?” If he replied,“ Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel,”Absalom said to him,“ Look, your claims are good and right, but the king does not have anyone to listen to you.”He added,“ If only someone would appoint me judge in the land. Then anyone who had a grievance or dispute could come to me, and I would make sure he received justice.”When a person approached to pay homage to him, Absalom reached out his hand, took hold of him, and kissed him.Absalom did this to all the Israelites who came to the king for a settlement. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.When four years had passed, Absalom said to the king,“ Please let me go to Hebron to fulfill a vow I made to the LORD.For your servant made a vow when I lived in Geshur of Aram, saying,‘ If the LORD really brings me back to Jerusalem, I will worship the LORD in Hebron.’”“ Go in peace,” the king said to him. So he went to Hebron.Then Absalom sent agents throughout the tribes of Israel with this message:“ When you hear the sound of the ram’s horn, you are to say,‘ Absalom has become king in Hebron!’”Two hundred men from Jerusalem went with Absalom. They had been invited and were going innocently, for they did not know the whole situation.While he was offering the sacrifices, Absalom sent for David’s adviser Ahithophel the Gilonite, from his city of Giloh. So the conspiracy grew strong, and the people supporting Absalom continued to increase.

When daybreak came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people plotted against Jesus to put him to death.After tying him up, they led him away and handed him over to Pilate, the governor.

“ For, in fact, in this city both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, assembled together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,to do whatever your hand and your will had predestined to take place.

In all his scheming, the wicked person arrogantly thinks,“ There’s no accountability, since there’s no God.”

The proud hide a trap with ropes for me; they spread a net along the path and set snares for me. Selah

He answered me,“ The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is extremely great; the land is full of bloodshed, and the city full of perversity. For they say,‘ The LORD has abandoned the land; he does not see.’

The arrogant have smeared me with lies, but I obey your precepts with all my heart.
