Then Zebul said to Gaal,“ Where is your big talk now? You said,‘ Who is Abimelek? Why should we be under his rule?’ Aren’t these the people you made fun of? Go out and fight against them!”So Gaal led the citizens out of Shechem. They fought against Abimelek.He chased Gaal from the field of battle. Abimelek chased them all the way to the entrance of the city gate. Many men were killed as they ran away.

Then the Israelites would turn around and attack. The men of Benjamin had begun to wound and kill the men of Israel. They had struck down about 30 of them. They had said,“ We’re winning the battle over them, just as we did the first time.”

They were like their people who lived long ago. They turned away from him and were not faithful. They were like a bow that doesn’t shoot straight. They couldn’t be trusted.

The Philistines fought against the Israelites. The Israelites ran away from them. But many Israelites were killed on Mount Gilboa.

But Simon replied,“ Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”
