築邱壇使天主不悅、拜偶像干犯天主盛怒、

高壇徧設。偶像是崇。輕干天怒。觸迕聖衷。

They angered him with their high places; they aroused his jealousy with their idols.

They made God angry by going to their high places. They made him jealous by worshiping the statues of their gods.

They angered God by building shrines to other gods; they made him jealous with their idols.

The people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. And they forsook the Lord and did not serve him.

beware lest you act corruptly by making a carved image for yourselves, in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air,the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth.And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, things that the Lord your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.But the Lord has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be a people of his own inheritance, as you are this day.Furthermore, the Lord was angry with me because of you, and he swore that I should not cross the Jordan, and that I should not enter the good land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance.For I must die in this land; I must not go over the Jordan. But you shall go over and take possession of that good land.Take care, lest you forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which he made with you, and make a carved image, the form of anything that the Lord your God has forbidden you.For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.“ When you father children and children’s children, and have grown old in the land, if you act corruptly by making a carved image in the form of anything, and by doing what is evil in the sight of the Lord your God, so as to provoke him to anger,

“ You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,

How long, O Lord? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire?

And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals.And they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them. And they provoked the Lord to anger.

then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you and destroy all their figured stones and destroy all their metal images and demolish all their high places.

He put out the form of a hand and took me by a lock of my head, and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and brought me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the gateway of the inner court that faces north, where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provokes to jealousy.And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, like the vision that I saw in the valley.Then he said to me,“ Son of man, lift up your eyes now toward the north.” So I lifted up my eyes toward the north, and behold, north of the altar gate, in the entrance, was this image of jealousy.

“‘ Cursed be the man who makes a carved or cast metal image, an abomination to the Lord, a thing made by the hands of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ And all the people shall answer and say,‘ Amen.’

and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods. But he did not keep what the Lord commanded.

So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he said,“ Because this people have transgressed my covenant that I commanded their fathers and have not obeyed my voice,

And now they sin more and more, and make for themselves metal images, idols skillfully made of their silver, all of them the work of craftsmen. It is said of them,“ Those who offer human sacrifice kiss calves!”
