We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.

We won’t hide them from our children. We will tell them to those who live after us. We will tell them what the Lord has done that is worthy of praise. We will talk about his power and the wonderful things he has done.

I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the Lord And the praises of the Lord, According to all that the Lord has bestowed on us, And the great goodness toward the house of Israel, Which He has bestowed on them according to His mercies, According to the multitude of His lovingkindnesses.For He said,“ Surely they are My people, Children who will not lie.” So He became their Savior.In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the Angel of His Presence saved them; In His love and in His pity He redeemed them; And He bore them and carried them All the days of old.But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; So He turned Himself against them as an enemy, And He fought against them.Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people, saying:“ Where is He who brought them up out of the sea With the shepherd of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit within them,Who led them by the right hand of Moses, With His glorious arm, Dividing the water before them To make for Himself an everlasting name,Who led them through the deep, As a horse in the wilderness, That they might not stumble?”As a beast goes down into the valley, And the Spirit of the Lord causes him to rest, So You lead Your people, To make Yourself a glorious name.Look down from heaven, And see from Your habitation, holy and glorious. Where are Your zeal and Your strength, The yearning of Your heart and Your mercies toward me? Are they restrained?Doubtless You are our Father, Though Abraham was ignorant of us, And Israel does not acknowledge us. You, O Lord, are our Father; Our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your name.O Lord, why have You made us stray from Your ways, And hardened our heart from Your fear? Return for Your servants’ sake, The tribes of Your inheritance.Your holy people have possessed it but a little while; Our adversaries have trodden down Your sanctuary.We have become like those of old, over whom You never ruled, Those who were never called by Your name.

And you shall tell your son in that day, saying,‘ This is done because of what the Lord did for me when I came up from Egypt.’

Then he spoke to the children of Israel, saying:“ When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying,‘ What are these stones?’then you shall let your children know, saying,‘ Israel crossed over this Jordan on dry land’;for the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over,that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”

Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide in times of trouble?The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire; He blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord.The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts.His ways are always prospering; Your judgments are far above, out of his sight; As for all his enemies, he sneers at them.

That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving, And tell of all Your wondrous works.

And it shall be, when your children say to you,‘ What do you mean by this service?’

That I may tell of all Your praise In the gates of the daughter of Zion. I will rejoice in Your salvation.

So it shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying,‘ What is this?’ that you shall say to him,‘ By strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
