主仍發憐恤、赦免罪愆、不施行毀滅、屢次轉怒回嗔、不欲發之殆盡、

慈懷包荒。赦其罪孽。惡雖盈貫。未予殲滅。不為已甚。聖怒屢戢。

But he was full of tender love. He forgave their sins and didn’t destroy his people. Time after time he held back his anger. He didn’t let all his burning anger blaze out.

Yet he, being compassionate, atoned for their iniquity and did not destroy them; he restrained his anger often and did not stir up all his wrath.

‘ The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.’In accordance with your great love, forgive the sin of these people, just as you have pardoned them from the time they left Egypt until now.”The Lord replied,“ I have forgiven them, as you asked.

And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming,“ The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped.“ Lord,” he said,“ if I have found favor in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff- necked people, forgive our wickedness and our sin, and take us as your inheritance.”

“‘ Yet the people of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not follow my decrees but rejected my laws— by which the person who obeys them will live— and they utterly desecrated my Sabbaths. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and destroy them in the wilderness.But for the sake of my name I did what would keep it from being profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

“‘ But the children rebelled against me: They did not follow my decrees, they were not careful to keep my laws, of which I said,“ The person who obeys them will live by them,” and they desecrated my Sabbaths. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and spend my anger against them in the wilderness.But I withheld my hand, and for the sake of my name I did what would keep it from being profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

“‘ But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me; they did not get rid of the vile images they had set their eyes on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and spend my anger against them in Egypt.But for the sake of my name, I brought them out of Egypt. I did it to keep my name from being profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they lived and in whose sight I had revealed myself to the Israelites.

He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done.

Yet I looked on them with pity and did not destroy them or put an end to them in the wilderness.

“ Remember these things, Jacob, for you, Israel, are my servant. I have made you, you are my servant; Israel, I will not forget you.I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.”

Many times he delivered them, but they were bent on rebellion and they wasted away in their sin.Yet he took note of their distress when he heard their cry;for their sake he remembered his covenant and out of his great love he relented.

and the Lord said to Moses,“ Get away from this assembly so I can put an end to them at once.” And they fell facedown.Then Moses said to Aaron,“ Take your censer and put incense in it, along with burning coals from the altar, and hurry to the assembly to make atonement for them. Wrath has come out from the Lord; the plague has started.”So Aaron did as Moses said, and ran into the midst of the assembly. The plague had already started among the people, but Aaron offered the incense and made atonement for them.He stood between the living and the dead, and the plague stopped.
