我將啟口設譬、宣古秘語兮、

余將啟口設譬、以古所秘者闡揚之兮、

我啟口設喻言、述說古來之隱語、

啟脣設譬。發古之蘊。

I will open my mouth and tell a story. I will speak about things that were hidden. They happened a long time ago.

I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old,

for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past—

I will declare wise sayings; I will speak mysteries from the past—

Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:“ I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”

I will turn my ear to a proverb; with the harp I will expound my riddle:

for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.

He replied,“ Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.This is why I speak to them in parables:“ Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
