The people spoke against God and Moses:“ Why have you led us up from Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread or water, and we detest this wretched food!”

Contemptible people among them had a strong craving for other food. The Israelites cried again and said,“ Who will feed us meat?

Moses continued,“ The Lord will give you meat to eat this evening and more than enough bread in the morning, for He has heard the complaints that you are raising against Him. Who are we? Your complaints are not against us but against the Lord.”Then Moses told Aaron,“ Say to the entire Israelite community,‘ Come before the Lord, for He has heard your complaints.’”As Aaron was speaking to the entire Israelite community, they turned toward the wilderness, and there in a cloud the Lord’s glory appeared.

Where can I get meat to give all these people? For they are crying to me:‘ Give us meat to eat!’

For he adds rebellion to his sin; he scornfully claps in our presence, while multiplying his words against God.

The Israelites said to them,“ If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by pots of meat and ate all the bread we wanted. Instead, you brought us into this wilderness to make this whole assembly die of hunger!”

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

He began to speak blasphemies against God: to blaspheme His name and His dwelling— those who dwell in heaven.

The people quarreled with Moses and said,“ If only we had perished when our brothers perished before the Lord.

But who are you, a mere man, to talk back to God? Will what is formed say to the one who formed it,“ Why did you make me like this?”

They spoke against the God of Jerusalem like they had spoken against the gods of the peoples of the earth, which were made by human hands.
