“ Your name will no longer be Jacob,” he said.“ It will be Israel because you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.”

Come, let’s return to the LORD. For he has torn us, and he will heal us; he has wounded us, and he will bind up our wounds.

I called to the LORD in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.

Why do you want more beatings? Why do you keep on rebelling? The whole head is hurt, and the whole heart is sick.From the sole of the foot even to the head, no spot is uninjured— wounds, welts, and festering sores not cleansed, bandaged, or soothed with oil.

Be gracious to me, LORD, for I am weak; heal me, LORD, for my bones are shaking;my whole being is shaken with terror. And you, LORD— how long?

There is no soundness in my body because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin.For my iniquities have flooded over my head; they are a burden too heavy for me to bear.My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness.I am bent over and brought very low; all day long I go around in mourning.For my insides are full of burning pain, and there is no soundness in my body.I am faint and severely crushed; I groan because of the anguish of my heart.

LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out before you day and night.May my prayer reach your presence; listen to my cry.For I have had enough troubles, and my life is near Sheol.

I call on you in the day of my distress, for you will answer me.
