God said,“ Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs to indicate seasons and days and years,and let them serve as lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” It was so.God made two great lights– the greater light to rule over the day and the lesser light to rule over the night. so that you may be like your Father in heaven, since he causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

He made the moon to mark the months, and the sun sets according to a regular schedule.

In the sky he has pitched a tent for the sun.Like a bridegroom it emerges from its chamber; like a strong man it enjoys running its course.It emerges from the distant horizon, and goes from one end of the sky to the other; nothing can escape its heat.
