if I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me( yes, I have delivered him who without cause was my adversary),

我若以恶报那与我交好的人（连那无故与我为敌的，我也救了他），

我若以恶回报我的朋友，连那无故与我为敌的，我也救了他，

我若以恶回报我的朋友，连那无故与我为敌的，我也救了他，

倘若我恩将仇报，无故抢夺仇敌，

如果我以恶回报那与我为友的人，或是无故掠夺与我为敌的人，

如果我恶待那与我和好的人，或是无故掠夺我的敌人，

我若以惡報那與我交好的人－連那無故與我為敵的，我也救了他，

我若以惡回報我的朋友，連那無故與我為敵的，我也救了他，

我若以惡回報我的朋友，連那無故與我為敵的，我也救了他，

倘若我恩將仇報，無故搶奪仇敵，

如果我以惡回報那與我為友的人，或是無故掠奪與我為敵的人，

我若以惡報那與我友好的人，或無緣無故劫掠與我為敵的人，

如果我惡待那與我和好的人，或是無故掠奪我的敵人，

與我交厚者、以惡報之、無端仇我者、反拯救之、

我若惡報與我交好之人、或搶奪無故與我為仇之人、

倘吾曾為此。有罪在雙腕。

if I have repaid my ally with evil or without cause have robbed my foe—

Or I have done evil to my friend. Or I have robbed my enemy without any reason.

if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause,

if I have betrayed a friend or plundered my enemy without cause,

if I have done harm to one at peace with me or have plundered my adversary without cause,

If I have done evil to my friend, Or have plundered my enemy for no reason,

If I have repaid evil to him who was at peace with me, Or have plundered my enemy without cause,

If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me( Yea, I have delivered him that without cause was mine adversary;)

if I have done harm to one at peace with me or have plundered my adversary without cause,

If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me;( yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)

or have wronged my ally, or helped his lawless enemy,

So David checked his men with these words, and didn’t allow them to rise against Saul. Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

He raises his hands against his friends. He has violated his covenant.

They have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

Behold, today your eyes have seen how Yahweh had delivered you today into my hand in the cave. Some urged me to kill you; but I spared you; and I said, I will not stretch out my hand against my lord; for he is Yahweh’s anointed.Moreover, my father, behold, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of your robe, and didn’t kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor disobedience in my hand, and I have not sinned against you, though you hunt for my life to take it.May Yahweh judge between me and you, and may Yahweh avenge me of you; but my hand will not be on you.As the proverb of the ancients says,‘ Out of the wicked comes wickedness;’ but my hand will not be on you.Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?May Yahweh therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and you, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.”

The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but Yahweh tests the hearts.

When they had gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Joseph said to his steward,“ Up, follow after the men. When you overtake them, ask them,‘ Why have you rewarded evil for good?

David said to Abishai,“ Don’t destroy him; for who can stretch out his hand against Yahweh’s anointed, and be guiltless?”David said,“ As Yahweh lives, Yahweh will strike him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall go down into battle and perish.Yahweh forbid that I should stretch out my hand against Yahweh’s anointed; but now please take the spear that is at his head, and the jar of water, and let’s go.”So David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul’s head; and they went away: and no man saw it, or knew it, nor did any awake; for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from Yahweh had fallen on them.Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of the mountain afar off; a great space being between them;and David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying,“ Don’t you answer, Abner?” Then Abner answered,“ Who are you who cries to the king?”David said to Abner,“ Aren’t you a man? Who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not kept watch over your lord, the king? For one of the people came in to destroy the king your lord.This thing isn’t good that you have done. As Yahweh lives, you are worthy to die, because you have not kept watch over your lord, Yahweh’s anointed. Now see where the king’s spear is, and the jar of water that was at his head.”Saul knew David’s voice, and said,“ Is this your voice, my son David?” David said,“ It is my voice, my lord, O king.”

Then Saul said,“ I have sinned. Return, my son David; for I will no more do you harm, because my life was precious in your eyes today. Behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.”

Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said,“ Who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son- in- law, captain of your body guard, and honored in your house?

Should evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and give them over to the power of the sword. Let their wives become childless and widows. Let their men be killed and their young men struck by the sword in battle.

David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan,“ What have I done? What is my iniquity? What is my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?”

He said to David,“ You are more righteous than I; for you have done good to me, whereas I have done evil to you.You have declared today how you have dealt well with me, because when Yahweh had delivered me up into your hand, you didn’t kill me.For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away unharmed? Therefore may Yahweh reward you good for that which you have done to me today.

Behold, as your life was respected today in my eyes, so let my life be respected in Yahweh’s eyes, and let him deliver me out of all oppression.”

Please forgive the trespass of your servant. For Yahweh will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights Yahweh’s battles. Evil will not be found in you all your days.Though men may rise up to pursue you, and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord will be bound in the bundle of life with Yahweh your God. He will sling out the souls of your enemies, as from the hollow of a sling.

Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him,“ Don’t let the king sin against his servant, against David; because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you;for he put his life in his hand, and struck the Philistine, and Yahweh worked a great victory for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?”
