Lord my God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from all who pursue me,

Lord my God, I go to you for safety. Help me. Save me from all those who are chasing me.

O Lord my God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me,

I come to you for protection, O Lord my God. Save me from my persecutors— rescue me!

LORD my God, I seek refuge in you; save me from all my pursuers and rescue me,

O Lord my God, in You I have taken refuge; Save me from all those who pursue me, and rescue me,

O Lord my God, in You I put my trust; Save me from all those who persecute me; And deliver me,

O Jehovah my God, in thee do I take refuge: Save me from all them that pursue me, and deliver me,

Yahweh my God, I seek refuge in You; save me from all my pursuers and rescue me

O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:

Yahweh, my God, I take refuge in you. Save me from all those who pursue me, and deliver me,

You determine my destiny! Rescue me from the power of my enemies and those who chase me.

This is a prayer of Habakkuk the prophet:

Who among you fears the LORD? Who obeys his servant? Whoever walks in deep darkness, without light, should trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.

An evil person suffers much pain, but the LORD’s faithfulness overwhelms the one who trusts in him.

But the LORD is with me to help me like an awe-inspiring warrior. Therefore those who persecute me will fail and will not prevail over me. They will be thoroughly disgraced because they did not succeed. Their disgrace will never be forgotten.

Indeed, you are my lamp, LORD. My God illuminates the darkness around me.

When David had gone a short way beyond the summit, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth was there to meet him. He had a couple of donkeys that were saddled, and on them were two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred raisin cakes, a hundred baskets of summer fruit, and a container of wine.The king asked Ziba,“ Why did you bring these things?” Ziba replied,“ The donkeys are for the king’s family to ride on, the loaves of bread and the summer fruit are for the attendants to eat, and the wine is for those who get exhausted in the desert.”The king asked,“ Where is your master’s grandson?” Ziba replied to the king,“ He remains in Jerusalem, for he said,‘ Today the house of Israel will give back to me my grandfather’s kingdom.’”The king said to Ziba,“ Everything that was Mephibosheth’s now belongs to you.” Ziba replied,“ I bow before you. May I find favor in your sight, my lord the king.”Then King David reached Bahurim. There a man from Saul’s extended family named Shimei son of Gera came out, yelling curses as he approached.He threw stones at David and all of King David’s servants, as well as all the people and the soldiers who were on his right and on his left.As he yelled curses, Shimei said,“ Leave! Leave! You man of bloodshed, you wicked man!The LORD has punished you for all the spilled blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you rule. Now the LORD has given the kingdom into the hand of your son Absalom. Disaster has overtaken you, for you are a man of bloodshed!”Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king,“ Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over and cut off his head!”But the king said,“ What do we have in common, you sons of Zeruiah? If he curses because the LORD has said to him,‘ Curse David!’, who can say to him,‘ Why have you done this?’”Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants,“ My own son, my very own flesh and blood, is trying to take my life. So also now this Benjaminite! Leave him alone so that he can curse, for the LORD has spoken to him.Perhaps the LORD will notice my affliction and this day grant me good in place of his curse.”So David and his men went on their way. But Shimei kept going along the side of the hill opposite him, yelling curses as he threw stones and dirt at them.The king and all the people who were with him arrived exhausted at their destination, where David refreshed himself.Now when Absalom and all the men of Israel arrived in Jerusalem, Ahithophel was with him.When David’s friend Hushai the Arkite came to Absalom, Hushai said to him,“ Long live the king! Long live the king!”Absalom said to Hushai,“ Do you call this loyalty to your friend? Why didn’t you go with your friend?”Hushai replied to Absalom,“ No, I will be loyal to the one whom the LORD, these people, and all the men of Israel have chosen.Moreover, whom should I serve? Should it not be his son? Just as I served your father, so I will serve you.”Then Absalom said to Ahithophel,“ Give us your advice. What should we do?”Ahithophel replied to Absalom,“ Have sex with your father’s concubines whom he left to care for the palace. All Israel will hear that you have made yourself repulsive to your father. Then your followers will be motivated to support you.”So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and Absalom had sex with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.In those days Ahithophel’s advice was considered as valuable as a prophetic revelation. Both David and Absalom highly regarded the advice of Ahithophel.

Look at me! Answer me, O LORD my God! Revive me, or else I will die!

I have indeed heard the people of Israel say mournfully,‘ We were like a calf untrained to the yoke. You disciplined us and we learned from it. Let us come back to you and we will do so, for you are the LORD our God.

Accomplish awesome, faithful deeds, you who powerfully deliver those who look to you for protection from their enemies.Protect me as you would protect the pupil of your eye! Hide me in the shadow of your wings!Protect me from the wicked men who attack me, my enemies who crowd around me for the kill.

But I trust in your faithfulness. May I rejoice because of your deliverance!

Vindicate me, O LORD, for I have integrity, and I trust in the LORD without wavering.

O LORD, fight those who fight with me! Attack those who attack me!Grab your small shield and large shield, and rise up to help me!Use your spear and lance against those who chase me! Assure me with these words:“ I am your deliverer!”

Then you will escape through my mountain valley, for the mountains will extend to Azal. Indeed, you will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come with all his holy ones with him.

I said,“ LORD, you know how I suffer. Take thought of me and care for me. Pay back for me those who have been persecuting me. Do not be so patient with them that you allow them to kill me. Be mindful of how I have put up with their insults for your sake.

Rise up, LORD! Deliver me, my God! Yes, you will strike all my enemies on the jaw; you will break the teeth of the wicked.

So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you.In you, O LORD, I have taken shelter! Never let me be humiliated! Vindicate me by rescuing me!

Do not trust in princes, or in human beings, who cannot deliver!Their life’s breath departs, they return to the ground; on that day their plans die.How blessed is the one whose helper is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,the one who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who remains forever faithful,

So then let those who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator as they do good.

He will call out to me,‘ You are my father, my God, and the protector who delivers me.’

O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me.

In the LORD I have taken shelter. How can you say to me,“ Flee to a mountain like a bird!

My countrymen who accompanied me frightened the people, but I remained loyal to the LORD my God.

Through him you now trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

Then I will go to the altar of God, to the God who gives me ecstatic joy, so that I express my thanks to you, O God, my God, with a harp.

O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, pay attention, and act! Don’t delay, for your own sake, O my God! For your city and your people are called by your name.”While I was still speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and presenting my request before the LORD my God concerning his holy mountain–

The LORD is my high ridge, my stronghold, my deliverer. My God is my rocky summit where I take shelter, my shield, the horn that saves me, and my refuge.

I prayed to the LORD my God, confessing in this way:“ O Lord, great and awesome God who is faithful to his covenant with those who love him and keep his commandments,

My God, I trust in you. Please do not let me be humiliated; do not let my enemies triumphantly rejoice over me!
