如經上所記：神給他們昏迷的心，眼睛不能看見，耳朵不能聽見，直到今日。大衛也說：願他們的筵席變為網羅，變為機檻，變為絆腳石，作他們的報應。願他們的眼睛昏矇，不得看見；願你時常彎下他們的腰。

萬軍之耶和華說：你們若不聽從，也不放在心上，將榮耀歸與我的名，我就使咒詛臨到你們，使你們的福分變為咒詛；因你們不把誡命放在心上，我已經咒詛你們了。

他必作為聖所，卻向以色列兩家作絆腳的石頭，跌人的磐石；向耶路撒冷的居民作為圈套和網羅。許多人必在其上絆腳跌倒，而且跌碎，並陷入網羅，被纏住。」

又說：作了絆腳的石頭，跌人的磐石。他們既不順從，就在道理上絆跌；他們這樣絆跌也是預定的。

人正說「平安穩妥」的時候，災禍忽然臨到他們，如同產難臨到懷胎的婦人一樣，他們絕不能逃脫。

愚昧人背道，必殺己身；愚頑人安逸，必害己命。
