Save me from the trouble I’m in. It’s like slippery mud, so don’t let me sink in it. Save me from those who hate me. Save me from the deep water I’m in.

Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters.

Rescue me from the mud; don’t let me sink any deeper! Save me from those who hate me, and pull me from these deep waters.

Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck.I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me.

The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead— whom you killed by hanging him on a cross.God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins.

Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.

“ My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them.“ Stay here and keep watch.”Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him.“ Abba, Father,” he said,“ everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.“ Simon,” he said to Peter,“ are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”Once more he went away and prayed the same thing.When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.Returning the third time, he said to them,“ Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

So they took Jeremiah and put him into the cistern of Malkijah, the king’s son, which was in the courtyard of the guard. They lowered Jeremiah by ropes into the cistern; it had no water in it, only mud, and Jeremiah sank down into the mud.But Ebed-Melek, a Cushite, an official in the royal palace, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern. While the king was sitting in the Benjamin Gate,Ebed-Melek went out of the palace and said to him,“ My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all they have done to Jeremiah the prophet. They have thrown him into a cistern, where he will starve to death when there is no longer any bread in the city.”Then the king commanded Ebed-Melek the Cushite,“ Take thirty men from here with you and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies.”So Ebed-Melek took the men with him and went to a room under the treasury in the palace. He took some old rags and worn-out clothes from there and let them down with ropes to Jeremiah in the cistern.Ebed-Melek the Cushite said to Jeremiah,“ Put these old rags and worn-out clothes under your arms to pad the ropes.” Jeremiah did so,and they pulled him up with the ropes and lifted him out of the cistern. And Jeremiah remained in the courtyard of the guard.

With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause.

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?

Do not let those gloat over me who are my enemies without cause; do not let those who hate me without reason maliciously wink the eye.

the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us,the raging waters would have swept us away.

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.

Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.

I called on your name, Lord, from the depths of the pit.

But you, Sovereign Lord, help me for your name’s sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me.

“ But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say,‘ We don’t want this man to be our king.’

Look on my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.See how numerous are my enemies and how fiercely they hate me!

But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them— bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”

And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice,“ Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?”( which means“ My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
