Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.

Save me from the trouble I’m in. It’s like slippery mud, so don’t let me sink in it. Save me from those who hate me. Save me from the deep water I’m in.

Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters.

Save me, God, for the water has risen to my neck.I have sunk in deep mud, and there is no footing; I have come into deep water, and a flood sweeps over me.

The God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had murdered by hanging him on a tree.God exalted this man to his right hand as ruler and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your billows have swept over me.

He said to them,“ I am deeply grieved to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake.”He went a little farther, fell to the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.And he said,“ Abba, Father! All things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what you will.”Then he came and found them sleeping. He said to Peter,“ Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you stay awake one hour?Stay awake and pray so that you won’t enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”Once again he went away and prayed, saying the same thing.And again he came and found them sleeping, because they could not keep their eyes open. They did not know what to say to him.Then he came a third time and said to them,“ Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The time has come. See, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.Get up; let’s go. See, my betrayer is near.”

So they took Jeremiah and dropped him into the cistern of Malchiah the king’s son, which was in the guard’s courtyard, lowering Jeremiah with ropes. There was no water in the cistern, only mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud.But Ebed-melech, a Cushite court official in the king’s palace, heard Jeremiah had been put into the cistern. While the king was sitting at the Benjamin Gate,Ebed-melech went from the king’s palace and spoke to the king:“ My lord the king, these men have been evil in all they have done to the prophet Jeremiah. They have dropped him into the cistern where he will die from hunger, because there is no more bread in the city.”So the king commanded Ebed-melech, the Cushite,“ Take from here thirty men under your authority and pull the prophet Jeremiah up from the cistern before he dies.”So Ebed-melech took the men under his authority and went to the king’s palace to a place below the storehouse. From there he took old rags and worn-out clothes and lowered them by ropes to Jeremiah in the cistern.Ebed-melech the Cushite called down to Jeremiah,“ Place these old rags and clothes between your armpits and the ropes.” Jeremiah did this.They pulled him up with the ropes and lifted him out of the cistern, but he remained in the guard’s courtyard.

They surround me with hateful words and attack me without cause.

I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and appear before God?

Do not let my deceitful enemies rejoice over me; do not let those who hate me without cause wink at me maliciously.

Then the water would have engulfed us; the torrent would have swept over us;the raging water would have swept over us.

I waited patiently for the LORD, and he turned to me and heard my cry for help.He brought me up from a desolate pit, out of the muddy clay, and set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure.He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and they will trust in the LORD.

Don’t let the floodwaters sweep over me or the deep swallow me up; don’t let the Pit close its mouth over me.

I called on your name, LORD, from the depths of the pit.

But you, LORD, my Lord, deal kindly with me for your name’s sake; because your faithful love is good, rescue me.

“ But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying,‘ We don’t want this man to rule over us.’

Consider my affliction and trouble, and forgive all my sins.Consider my enemies; they are numerous, and they hate me violently.

But bring here these enemies of mine, who did not want me to rule over them, and slaughter them in my presence.’”

And at three Jesus cried out with a loud voice,“ Eloi, Eloi, lemá sabachtháni?” which is translated,“ My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”
