And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing.Then Pilate said to Him,“ Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?”

“ You shall appoint judges and officers in all your gates, which the Lord your God gives you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

And they clothed Him with purple; and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head,and began to salute Him,“ Hail, King of the Jews!”Then they struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on Him; and bowing the knee, they worshiped Him.

And they began to accuse Him, saying,“ We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said,“ He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him.

On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate,saying,“ Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said,‘ After three days I will rise.’

They were sons of fools, Yes, sons of vile men; They were scourged from the land.“ And now I am their taunting song; Yes, I am their byword.

And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.

The kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ.’“ For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together
