A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

God is in his holy temple. He is a father to children whose fathers have died. He takes care of women whose husbands have died.

Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.

God in his holy dwelling is a father of the fatherless and a champion of widows.

A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows, Is God in His holy dwelling.

A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation.

He is a father to the fatherless and an advocate for widows. God rules from his holy palace.

He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing.

But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans.

But I will protect the orphans who remain among you. Your widows, too, can depend on me for help.”

The Lord protects the foreigners among us. He cares for the orphans and widows, but he frustrates the plans of the wicked.

“ Give justice to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people.

Your leaders are rebels, the companions of thieves. All of them love bribes and demand payoffs, but they refuse to defend the cause of orphans or fight for the rights of widows.

They are fat and sleek, and there is no limit to their wicked deeds. They refuse to provide justice to orphans and deny the rights of the poor.

Now I have built a glorious Temple for you, a place where you can live forever!”

This is what the Lord says:“ Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that? Could you build me such a resting place?

The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this:“ I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.

“ There was a judge in a certain city,” he said,“ who neither feared God nor cared about people.A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying,‘ Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself,‘ I don’t fear God or care about people,but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”Then the Lord said,“ Learn a lesson from this unjust judge.Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?

Help him to defend the poor, to rescue the children of the needy, and to crush their oppressors.

You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.

Help him judge your people in the right way; let the poor always be treated fairly.

Then the priests and Levites stood and blessed the people, and God heard their prayer from his holy dwelling in heaven.

From his throne he observes all who live on the earth.

Assyria cannot save us, nor can our warhorses. Never again will we say to the idols we have made,‘ You are our gods.’ No, in you alone do the orphans find mercy.”

“ Have I refused to help the poor, or crushed the hopes of widows?Have I been stingy with my food and refused to share it with orphans?

Now look down from your holy dwelling place in heaven and bless your people Israel and the land you swore to our ancestors to give us— a land flowing with milk and honey.’

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.

However, the Most High doesn’t live in temples made by human hands. As the prophet says,‘ Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that?’ asks the Lord.‘ Could you build me such a resting place?

For I assisted the poor in their need and the orphans who required help.I helped those without hope, and they blessed me. And I caused the widows’ hearts to sing for joy.
