A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

God is in his holy temple. He is a father to children whose fathers have died. He takes care of women whose husbands have died.

Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.

Father to the fatherless, defender of widows— this is God, whose dwelling is holy.

The Lord watches over strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow, But He thwarts the way of the wicked.

Vindicate the weak and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and destitute.Rescue the weak and needy; Save them from the hand of the wicked.

Your rulers are rebels And companions of thieves; Everyone loves a bribe And chases after gifts. They do not obtain justice for the orphan, Nor does the widow’s case come before them.

They are fat, they are sleek, They also excel in deeds of wickedness; They do not plead the cause, The cause of the orphan, so that they may be successful; And they do not defend the rights of the poor.

I have built You a lofty house, And a place for Your dwelling forever.”

This is what the Lord says:“ Heaven is My throne and the earth is the footstool for My feet. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest?

For this is what the high and exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Holy, says:“ I dwell in a high and holy place, And also with the contrite and lowly of spirit In order to revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of the contrite.

saying,“ In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect any person.Now there was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying,‘ Give me justice against my opponent.’For a while he was unwilling; but later he said to himself,‘ Even though I do not fear God nor respect any person,yet because this widow is bothering me, I will give her justice; otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.’ ”And the Lord said,“ Listen to what the unrighteous judge* said;now, will God not bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night, and will He delay long for them?

May he vindicate the afflicted of the people, Save the children of the needy, And crush the oppressor.

To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, So that mankind, which is of the earth, will no longer cause terror.

May he judge Your people with righteousness And Your afflicted with justice.

Then the Levitical priests stood and blessed the people; and their voice was heard and their prayer came to His holy dwelling place, to heaven.

From His dwelling place He looks out On all the inhabitants of the earth,

Assyria will not save us, We will not ride on horses; Nor will we say again,‘ Our god’ To the work of our hands; For in You the orphan finds mercy.”

“ If I have kept the poor from their desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,Or have eaten my morsel alone, And the orphan has not shared it

Look down from Your holy dwelling place, from heaven, and bless Your people Israel, and the ground which You have given us, a land flowing with milk and honey just as You swore to our fathers.’

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;

However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands; as the prophet says:‘ Heaven is My throne, And the earth is the footstool of My feet; What kind of house will you build for Me?’ says the Lord,‘ Or what place is there for My rest?

Because I saved the poor who cried for help, And the orphan who had no helper.The blessing of the one who was about to perish came upon me, And I made the widow’s heart sing for joy.
