As I lie on my bed I remember you. I think of you all night long.

By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.

Let his faithful people rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds.

I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word.My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises.

In the night, Lord, I remember your name, that I may keep your law.

I slept but my heart was awake. Listen! My beloved is knocking:“ Open to me, my sister, my darling, my dove, my flawless one. My head is drenched with dew, my hair with the dampness of the night.”

All night long on my bed I looked for the one my heart loves; I looked for him but did not find him.I will get up now and go about the city, through its streets and squares; I will search for the one my heart loves. So I looked for him but did not find him.

You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak.I thought about the former days, the years of long ago;I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked:

How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.

Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at every street corner.
