By day the LORD decrees his loyal love, and by night he gives me a song, a prayer to the living God.

Let the godly rejoice because of their vindication! Let them shout for joy upon their beds!

I am up before dawn crying for help. I find hope in your word.My eyes anticipate the nighttime hours, so that I can meditate on your word.

I remember your name during the night, O LORD, and I will keep your law.

I was asleep, but my mind was dreaming. Listen! My lover is knocking at the door!“ Open for me, my sister, my darling, my dove, my flawless one! My head is drenched with dew, my hair with the dampness of the night.”

All night long on my bed I longed for my lover. I longed for him but he never appeared.“ I will arise and look all around throughout the town, and throughout the streets and squares; I will search for my beloved.” I searched for him but I did not find him.

You held my eyelids open; I was troubled and could not speak.I thought about the days of old, about ancient times.I said,“ During the night I will remember the song I once sang; I will think very carefully.” I tried to make sense of what was happening.

How difficult it is for me to fathom your thoughts about me, O God! How vast is their sum total!If I tried to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. Even if I finished counting them, I would still have to contend with you.

Get up! Cry out in the night when the night watches start! Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord! Lift up your hands to him for your children’s lives; they are fainting at every street corner.ר( Resh)
