Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath.

Surely ordinary people are only a breath. Important people are not what they seem to be. If they were weighed on a scale, they wouldn’t amount to anything. Together they are only a breath.

Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath.

Common people are as worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be. If you weigh them on the scales, together they are lighter than a breath of air.

Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are considered as a speck of dust in the scales; He lifts up the islands like fine dust.

All the nations are as nothing before Him; they are considered by Him as nothingness and emptiness.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in nobles.

You discipline a man with punishment for sin, consuming like a moth what is precious to him; every man is only a vapor. Selah

Then David asked,“ Will the citizens of Keilah hand me and my men over to Saul?”“ They will,” the Lord responded.

“ I’ll give her to him,” Saul thought.“ She’ll be a trap for him, and the hand of the Philistines will be against him.” So Saul said to David a second time,“ You can now be my son-in-law.”Saul then ordered his servants,“ Speak to David in private and tell him,‘ Look, the king is pleased with you, and all his servants love you. Therefore, you should become the king’s son-in-law.’”Saul’s servants reported these words directly to David, but he replied,“ Is it trivial in your sight to become the king’s son-in-law? I am a poor man who is common.”The servants reported back to Saul,“ These are the words David spoke.”Then Saul replied,“ Say this to David:‘ The king desires no other bride-price except 100 Philistine foreskins, to take revenge on his enemies.’” Actually, Saul intended to cause David’s death at the hands of the Philistines.When the servants reported these terms to David, he was pleased to become the king’s son-in-law. Before the wedding day arrived,

Some Ziphites came up to Saul at Gibeah and said,“ David is hiding among us in the strongholds in Horesh on the hill of Hachilah south of Jeshimon.Now, whenever the king wants to come down, let him come down. Our part will be to hand him over to the king.”

Then someone reported to David:“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.”“ Lord,” David pleaded,“ please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”

Absolutely not! God must be true, even if everyone is a liar, as it is written: That You may be justified in Your words and triumph when You judge.

Absalom did this to all the Israelites who came to the king for a settlement. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

In my alarm I said,“ Everyone is a liar.”

David marched out with the army and was successful in everything Saul sent him to do. Saul put him in command of the soldiers, which pleased all the people and Saul’s servants as well.

Saul responded,“ I have sinned. Come back, my son David, I will never harm you again because today you considered my life precious. I have been a fool! I’ve committed a grave error.”David answered,“ Here is the king’s spear; have one of the young men come over and get it.May the Lord repay every man for his righteousness and his loyalty. I wasn’t willing to lift my hand against the Lord’s anointed, even though the Lord handed you over to me today.Just as I considered your life valuable today, so may the Lord consider my life valuable and rescue me from all trouble.”Saul said to him,“ You are blessed, my son David. You will certainly do great things and will also prevail.” Then David went on his way, and Saul returned home.

But they shouted,“ Take Him away! Take Him away! Crucify Him!” Pilate said to them,“ Should I crucify your king?”“ We have no king but Caesar!” the chief priests answered.

As they celebrated, the women sang: Saul has killed his thousands, but David his tens of thousands.

Then the crowds who went ahead of Him and those who followed kept shouting: Hosanna to the Son of David! He who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One! Hosanna in the highest heaven!

But it is you, a man who is my peer, my companion and good friend!We used to have close fellowship; we walked with the crowd into the house of God.
