Have you not rejected us, O God? O God, you do not go into battle with our armies.

上帝啊，你抛弃了我们吗？不再和我们的军队一同出战了吗？

神啊！你不是把我们丢弃了吗？神啊！你不和我们的军队一同出战吗？

神哪，你不会抛弃了我们吧？神哪，你不与我们的队伍一同出征吗？

神啊，你不是丟棄了我們嗎？神啊，你不和我們的軍兵同去嗎？

上帝啊，你真的丟棄了我們嗎？上帝啊，你不和我們的軍隊同去嗎？

神啊，你真的丟棄了我們嗎？神啊，你不和我們的軍隊同去嗎？

上帝啊，你拋棄了我們嗎？不再和我們的軍隊一同出戰了嗎？

神啊！你不是把我們丟棄了嗎？神啊！你不和我們的軍隊一同出戰嗎？

上帝啊，不是你把我們屏棄了麼？上帝啊，你不在我們軍隊中去出戰了！

神哪，你不會拋棄了我們吧？神哪，你不與我們的隊伍一同出征嗎？

上帝歟、爾非棄我乎、上帝歟、爾不與我軍偕出兮、

惟爾上帝、素棄我躬、惟爾上帝、今率予軍旅兮。

豈非天主乎、現今主竟棄絕我儕、不率我軍旅出徵、

摩瓦作盤。夷東置屩。菲莉之野。供我歡躍。

Is it not you, God, you who have now rejected us and no longer go out with our armies?

God, isn’t it you, even though you have now turned away from us? Isn’t it you, even though you don’t lead our armies into battle anymore?

Have you not rejected us, O God? You do not go forth, O God, with our armies.

Have you rejected us, O God? Will you no longer march with our armies?

God, haven’t you rejected us? God, you do not march out with our armies.

Have You Yourself not rejected us, God? And will You not go out with our armies, God?

Is it not You, O God, who cast us off? And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies?

Hast not thou, O God, cast us off? And thou goest not forth, O God, with our hosts.

God, haven’t You rejected us? God, You do not march out with our armies.

[ Wilt] not thou, O God,[ which] hadst cast us off? and[ thou], O God,[ which] didst not go out with our armies?

Haven’t you, God, rejected us? You don’t go out with our armies, God.

Have you not rejected us, O God? O God, you do not go into battle with our armies.

The Israelites are unable to stand before their enemies; they retreat because they have become subject to annihilation. I will no longer be with you, unless you destroy what has contaminated you.

O God, you have rejected us. You suddenly turned on us in your anger. Please restore us!

But the LORD told me:“ Tell them this:‘ Do not go up and fight, because I will not be with you and you will be defeated by your enemies.’”

When the Philistines heard the sound of the shout, they said,“ What is this loud shout in the camp of the Hebrews?” Then they realized that the ark of the LORD had arrived at the camp.The Philistines were scared because they thought that gods had come to the camp. They said,“ Too bad for us! We’ve never seen anything like this!

Joshua captured in one campaign all these kings and their lands, for the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

So the Philistines fought. Israel was defeated; they all ran home. The slaughter was very great; thirty thousand foot soldiers fell in battle.The ark of God was taken, and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phineas, were killed.

Now the Philistines fought against Israel. The Israelites fled before the Philistines and many of them fell dead on Mount Gilboa.The Philistines stayed right on the heels of Saul and his sons. They struck down Saul’s sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua.The battle was thick around Saul; the archers spotted him and wounded him.Saul told his armor bearer,“ Draw your sword and stab me with it. Otherwise these uncircumcised people will come and torture me.” But his armor bearer refused to do it, because he was very afraid. So Saul took the sword and fell on it.When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died.So Saul and his three sons died; his whole household died together.When all the Israelites who were in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled. The Philistines came and occupied them.The next day, when the Philistines came to strip loot from the corpses, they discovered Saul and his sons lying dead on Mount Gilboa.They stripped his corpse, and then carried off his head and his armor. They sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines proclaiming the news to their idols and their people.They placed his armor in the temple of their gods and hung his head in the temple of Dagon.When all the residents of Jabesh Gilead heard about everything the Philistines had done to Saul,all the warriors went and recovered the bodies of Saul and his sons and brought them to Jabesh. They buried their remains under the oak tree in Jabesh and fasted for seven days.So Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD and did not obey the LORD’s instructions; he even tried to conjure up underworld spirits.He did not seek the LORD’s guidance, so the LORD killed him and transferred the kingdom to David son of Jesse.

Some trust in chariots and others in horses, but we depend on the LORD our God.

At that time you will say:“ I praise you, O LORD, for even though you were angry with me, your anger subsided, and you consoled me.Look, God is my deliverer! I will trust in him and not fear. For the LORD gives me strength and protects me; he has become my deliverer.”

“ You have surely noticed what these people are saying, haven’t you? They are saying,‘ The LORD has rejected the two families of Israel and Judah that he chose.’ So they have little regard that my people will ever again be a nation.But I, the LORD, make the following promise: I have made a covenant governing the coming of day and night. I have established the fixed laws governing heaven and earth.Just as surely as I have done this, so surely will I never reject the descendants of Jacob. Nor will I ever refuse to choose one of my servant David’s descendants to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Indeed, I will restore them and show mercy to them.”

I will wait patiently for the LORD, who has rejected the family of Jacob; I will wait for him.

It is better to take shelter in the LORD than to trust in princes.All the nations surrounded me. Indeed, in the name of the LORD I pushed them away.

By your power we will drive back our enemies; by your strength we will trample down our foes!For I do not trust in my bow, and I do not prevail by my sword.For you deliver us from our enemies; you humiliate those who hate us.In God I boast all day long, and we will continually give thanks to your name.( Selah)But you rejected and embarrassed us! You did not go into battle with our armies.

for the LORD your God goes with you to fight on your behalf against your enemies to give you victory.”
