The LORD’s anger burned against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years until the whole generation that had done what was evil in the LORD’s sight was gone.

Now, LORD our God, please save us from his power so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, LORD, are God— you alone.

The time we spent traveling from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley was thirty-eight years until the entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.Indeed, the LORD’s hand was against them, to eliminate them from the camp until they had all perished.“ When all the fighting men had died among the people,

Today, the LORD will hand you over to me. Today, I’ll strike you down, remove your head, and give the corpses of the Philistine camp to the birds of the sky and the wild creatures of the earth. Then all the world will know that Israel has a God,and this whole assembly will know that it is not by sword or by spear that the LORD saves, for the battle is the LORD’s. He will hand you over to us.”

You will be driven away from people to live with the wild animals. You will feed on grass like cattle and be drenched with dew from the sky for seven periods of time, until you acknowledge that the Most High is ruler over human kingdoms, and he gives them to anyone he wants.

Do not kill them; otherwise, my people will forget. By your power, make them homeless wanderers and bring them down, Lord, our shield.

At the time for offering the evening sacrifice, the prophet Elijah approached the altar and said,“ LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that you are God in Israel and I am your servant, and that at your word I have done all these things.Answer me, LORD! Answer me so that this people will know that you, the LORD, are God and that you have turned their hearts back.”

You will bear the consequences of your iniquities forty years based on the number of the forty days that you scouted the land, a year for each day. You will know my displeasure.I, the LORD, have spoken. I swear that I will do this to the entire evil community that has conspired against me. They will come to an end in the wilderness, and there they will die.”

The LORD your God will drive out these nations before you little by little. You will not be able to destroy them all at once; otherwise, the wild animals will become too numerous for you.The LORD your God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion until they are destroyed.

Indeed, your husband is your Maker— his name is the LORD of Armies— and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of the whole earth.
