Lord, you are like a shield that keeps us safe. Don’t kill my enemies all at once. If you do, my people will forget about it. Use your power to pull my enemies up by the roots like weeds. Destroy them.

Then you will be consoled about the devastation I have brought on Jerusalem, about all I have brought on it.They will bring you consolation when you see their conduct and actions, and you will know that it was not without cause that I have done what I did to it.” This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.

For the living know that they will die, but the dead don’t know anything. There is no longer a reward for them because the memory of them is forgotten.

In those days people will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, but death will flee from them.

If you work the ground, it will never again give you its yield. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”But Cain answered the LORD,“ My punishment is too great to bear!Since you are banishing me today from the face of the earth, and I must hide from your presence and become a restless wanderer on the earth, whoever finds me will kill me.”Then the LORD replied to him,“ In that case, whoever kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” And he placed a mark on Cain so that whoever found him would not kill him.

then he will restore your fortunes, have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the peoples where the LORD your God has scattered you.Even if your exiles are at the farthest horizon, he will gather you and bring you back from there.

Look on every proud person and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand.

“ Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves, so that you don’t forget the things your eyes have seen and so that they don’t slip from your mind as long as you live. Teach them to your children and your grandchildren.

For the LORD God is a sun and shield. The LORD grants favor and honor; he does not withhold the good from those who live with integrity.
